Breakaway pt I. | hockey!Azriel Ă reader
Summary: You're not a fan of a kiss cam. And neither is your boyfriend.
Word count: 1,8k
Warnings: swearing, miserable knowledge of hockey (sorry yall), Rhys being a protective asshole over his sister
A/n: Anyone a hockey fan? No, just me? Okay. Another thing is, that I described university as I know it in my country haha. I hope no one will be confused
Also yes, I did take inspiration from tiktok. I just loved that scene <3
>> Pt 2
Leaves started to fall which meant your favorite season was starting. You loved anything and everything that came with autumn. The pumpkin spice, moody weather, sweaters, and books. With autumn knocking on your door, the new semester has begun. You didn't mind studying, you actually enjoyed it to a certain degree, but the stress is what always got to you during exams. You were just starting your second year of university, so you knew what to expect. To many that was all. Just endless studying and partying to get their minds off things. You? Not really. Ever since you could remember, fall meant the hockey season started. Were you a hockey player? No, not at all. Ice skating was your passion, just not hockey. That didn't matter, because your brother was the golden child. Rhysand played because your father used to. You would never say it out loud, mainly because it would inflate his ego even more, but Rhysand was a star player. He was so much better than your father and you knew that if he wanted to, he would make it far.Â
Rhys never acted towards you with any malice other than just a bit of sibling rivalry. He was actually quite protective of you, given the fact you were his little sister. But whatever you did was never good enough for your father. You might study medicine, but Rhys was finishing law. You might figure skate but you were no hockey player. And most of all, you were a woman. And your father despised you for it. You were expected to make it to every game, but no one ever wanted to attend your competitions. You enjoyed watching the games, especially when Rhys met his best friends and teammates at university. The games became so much more interesting when Azriel entered the ice. Rhys might be the captain and the center, but Azriel was a force to be reckoned with, the fastest player in the rink. You became friends with both Cassian and Azriel quickly since you often visited their house to get away from your parents. Rhysand of course was glad but you knew you were off-limits to his friends. Not only was it obvious in how he glared at both of them whenever they made a comment he didnât appreciate. But the first time you met, Cass basically undressed you with his eyes. From what you heard he reminded them often to not mess with his sister.
It did not stop you from developing feelings for him the moment you laid eyes on him. For a while, it did seem he viewed you only as his best friend's little sister. Which you had a hard time accepting. Your relationship changed when you sneaked into a party they had thrown in celebration of a victory last year. You were a first-year, and your first semester at university had been hectic, but living close to your brother and away from your parents was a long-awaited blessing. Having a taste of freedom made you bold. Azriel couldn't take his eyes off of you, you had been like a magnet. He hadn't been the only one as you attracted the attention of another freshman. Azriel might not have acted on his attraction towards you before but seeing you with another man changed that. One thing led to another and you were sneaking out together whenever you found time.
It had been a year and your brother still had no clue. And you intended to keep it that way. You loved your boyfriend, you didn't want to worry about his teeth off the ice as well. Cassian on the other hand suspected, thankfully as you introduced him to your friend, Nesta, he became preoccupied and dropped the matter.Â
''So who do you think will win? And be honest, they're not here, you can't hurt their fragile egos.'' Nesta disturbed your train of thought. You laughed shaking your head. You loved hanging out with her because of how direct she was, always saying exactly what was on her mind. You met Nesta when your university did a charity ballet on the ice of Nutcracker. You got the role of Clara and she was your ballet counterpart. You did not expect to establish a friendship with her, but she was exactly who you needed in your life. You knew she would call you out on your bullshit anytime and you liked her for it. She also happened to be the first person you told about Azriel. She was not surprised, saying that you weren't being as secretive as you thought you had been.
''You know I am still biased since I really want our team to win. The Cavaliers are good and they play dirty. But Cass will probably try to kill Eris on the ice. Given the history and all.'' You gave her a pointed look. Shifting your gaze to the rink, you tried to find number 38.
''Theyâve got no chance against VU.'' Said a guy next to you. You hated when someone butted their way into a conversation. But given the fact, that you would be spending about two hours in close proximity, you had decided for a polite smile. ''I guess so.''
''So how come you've got such good seats? Know someone on the team?'' He chimed in again.
''You could say that. My brother is the captain.'' You answered keeping your eyes on Azriel as he warmed up.
''Rhysand is your brother?''
''Unfortunately.'' You nodded, and his eyes grew in size. ''That's so lucky! I wish I was a hockey player or just knew them. You see, I got these seats because I'll be writing an article about the game.'' You smiled politely again shifting your gaze to the rink when the puck was just about to hit the ice.
As the game progressed, the crowd became electric. All the fans were shouting and your ears began ringing. Velaris Bats were in the lead, but only by one goal and everyone was nervous. To make the game even more enjoyable, there were games for the fans as well. Students competed against one another to win points for their university and win the competition of the tribunes.
The competitions were fun and good entertainment during breaks. But while the game continued the camera was turned on. You laughed at a random do a meme moment, but quickly turned your head back to the ice. You didn't want to miss a second of Azriel's game. Fully focused, you didn't realize that the camera switched to a kiss cam. A guy sitting next to you turned his head to face you and pointed to the TV earning your attention. ''I mean when in Rome, right?'' He laughed as he tried to close the distance. ''Yeah, no, thank you.'' You laughed nervously shifting in your seat.
''Oh come on, it's just a kiss.'' He pressured, and you gave a panicked look towards the ice. You heard Nesta taking a sharp inhale to give the guy a piece of her mind. You were interrupted by shouts of the fans and loud banging on the glass.Â
''Back the fuck off.'' You couldn't hear Az properly, but the message was quite clear, making the guy shift his gaze between the two of you uncomfortably. Az got two minutes for stalling the game which made the crowd boo and your brother yell obscenities as he often did when one of his teammates was sent to a bench. Thankfully during the power play the Cavaliers didn't get a goal in, but it was close. It only enraged Rhysand more which was abundantly clear when he almost broke his stick as the second period came to an end.
Azriel was sending daggers to the guy sitting next to you who looked like he wanted nothing more than to leave. He relaxed when the players left for their locker rooms. You just hoped Rhys didn't look much into Azriel's possessive behavior.
''What the fuck was that?'' Roared Rhys as he entered the locker room.
''I don't know what you're talking about.'' Azriel continued to take off his gear.
''Do not play with me! You could have cost us the game.''
''I was thinking I did you a favor. He had no right to touch her like that.'' He finally faced Rhysand.
''It was a fucking kiss cam.''
''She didn't want to be kissed. And he didn't back off.''
''So what? You made it your mission to help her while you were supposed to pay attention to the puck?'' Spit Rhys. Everyone in the locker room was silent watching the two stubborn players go head to head.
''Yes! And I would do it again.'' Azriel retorted.
''I could have you off the team for this.'' He hissed.
''Rhys-.'' Cassian signed. ''Be my guest.'' Azriel interrupted starring Rhysand down. He wouldn't back down. He couldn't. He knew you could have handled yourself back there. Hell, Nesta was there, too and she wouldn't let some guy do anything disrespectful. He just acted on an impulse. When he looked up and saw your panicked gaze, something shifted inside him. Rhys kept watching Azriel, staring right into his soul when suddenly his eyes grew larger as if recognizing what he should have seen from the very beginning.
''You've got to be kidding me.'' When Azriel didn't answer, Rhys continued, ''Tell me you donât have a thing for my little sister.ââ
''Azriel, I swear to everything that is holly, I will fucking punch you if you don't give me an answer.''
''We are together. Have been for almost a year.'' Azriel never saw anyone have an aneurysm. But if he could guess, Rhysand was a textbook example of how it looked like.
''I take it back, I will punch you anyway.'' And he might have if Cassian wasn't there to catch Rhys. ''Easy there killer. The game is still on. And you might not like it but Az is an asset.''
''I don't want to see you anywhere near her, understand? I know how you are with girls!'' Rhysand snarled.
''You know I can't do that.''
''Then you're off the team.''
''Fine.''
As they returned to the ice, the tension between Velaris Bats was palpable. Cassian was looking between his teammates probably trying to find a quick solution to the problem at hand. Azriel wasn't paying you any attention keeping his gaze on the ice only. You frowned slightly. When you looked at Rhys you found him staring back at you anger oozing out of his every move.Â
He knew.

ââââââââ
You werenât sure if you had heard your father right, all you knew right now is that you had to get as far away as possible. You ignored your father calling out to you and ran out that office, you felt your dinner coming up. You clenched your stomach and your mind relapsed. It brought back bad memories from your time with your grandfather, being pinned against Damian and being chosen as the inferior twin. Thatâs why you werenât the heir, thatâs why you werenât Robin first. And thatâs why your currently sprinting you way through the house, Cass had called out to you and you felt dreadful for ignoring her but you couldnât take this right now. You were displaced, again.
Yet one thing led to another, and suddenly you were stood in the bat cave, staring at all the costumes behind the glass. There were so many, but only one caught your eye. Barbaraâs purple and yellow Batgirl costume. Maybe it was the Lazarus Pit trauma talking but suddenly your picking up the nearest object and smashing the glass, suddenly your putting the costume on and grabbing your phone from your room. Suddenly youâre jumping out your window and hopping the fence; you wished youâd had at least told Jason or even Cass what your game was, but itâs not like there would be much explain; your instinct just acted for you. And it felt good to hop over buildings in costume and punching a few noses on the way, as of right now you were snapping off your boyfriendâs window lock, and your feet hit the ground with a creak. Jon wasnât there but you looked at the time on your phone which read 18:05, he must of still been having dinner. So you waited for 5 minutes and in true Wayne family fashion sat there on his bed, reading one of his textbooks; until you heard footsteps outside the door but continued on reading.
The door opened and you sat up straight and met eyes with the person youâd hoped to see, âY/n? Is that you?â Jon eyes widened, many questions floating around his head. You slipped the mask off and got up and met him, âWe need to whisper, and shut the door please.â You tried to say as politely as possible, he got the message and gently shut the door. âI heardâŠso itâs true that Damianâs back.â He inferred as you led him to sit down with you on the bed, you sat down and took his hands in yours. âI was happy but judging by this costume, did Batman fire you?â You nodded at him and looked down in shame, but he quickly brought your chin back up. âHe told me I was discharged, but Iâm sure thatâs just a gentler term for fired.â You sighed, and as mad as you felt you saw this as an opportunity to join his lips to yours for what might be the last time. You slowly moved in and connected your lips to his, he sensed the urgency and moved in as well but didnât quite understand the rush.
You stayed that way for a while, but slowly moved away as he popped another question. âWhatâs actually wrong?â He asked and you felt bad because right now he looked like a sad puppy, but you couldnât drag him down with you. Not to mention you had to be more careful with Damianâs return. âIâm sorry but I think Iâm gonna tough it out on my own for a while.â You took your hands away from his and instantly missed the warmth. He looked at you as if youâd just told him his whole family died. âYouâve actually lost it if you think Iâm letting you go off on your own.â He took his hands back into yours. âIf think you need to do this- Iâm not gonna act like Iâm not happy about it but if I canât stop you Iâm gonna join you.â You both stay that way for a while, and reality sinks in at last. âI canât let you, your parents wonât forgive me not to mention Damian will feel so betrayed Iâm just not sure..â you whisper as if not wanting anything to change but itâs already too late, everythingâs changed.
âSorry Batgirl you canât stop me, I couldnât forgive myself if something happened to you, not to mention the wrath of your brothers, jeez..â He blushes and on a more serious note you accept his proposal. âOkay we can set up base at the outskirts I think, I know a place.â You stand up and reapply your mask, he follows and asks âAre you nervous?â You grin and if you could look at yourself right now youâd probably remind yourself of your twin brother. âNope, nobodyâs taking us down and if they try they wonât try and come back for another round.â You give him one last peck before sliding past the window sill again. âGather what you need, speak to who you need, Iâll be on the rooftop when youâre ready.â You smile at each other before slipping onto the roof without a sound.
You made a point to ignore the countless notifications on your phone, only messaging Damian with an unhelpful âIm okay.â
ââââââââ
You knew just where you both wouldnât be found, it probably would of been ideal to just ask to make your team but not only would that expose your relationship, it would also make family reunions really awkward. You werenât really thinking at all, you knew a warehouse you could operate from for the time being. It was where you and Jason trained for a bit, you had fond memories of being taken for ice cream afterwards and a ride on the back of his bike. It was nice to have someone look out for you, so much effort went into training Damian when you were young children, your grandfather tried to believe in you but knew ultimately Damian would be the heir. Which created so many insecurities, well right now you werenât much better running off with his friend but as you saw it you needed to pave your way as well.
Talia hadnât even wanted you to leave, you had to run away to escape your overly pampered life; and it took Bruce insisting you stay to get her to return home; but she still promised youâd eventually return to her. As much as you had wanted to lecture her on her overly protective behaviour you also wanted her approval. Sure she would be happy you were rebelling against your father, but would she approve of you doing it this way? Would she approve of Jon? Who was currently flying you both to the warehouse. You wanted to be validated, and that you hated the most.
You didnât feel like being alone tonight either, you knew there was an abandoned flat above the warehouse, but you and Jason had never gone up there. But you didnât mind if it was a 1 bed situation, if anything it would help to have someone to hold. Worse case scenario youâre both found sharing a bed and your brothers will lose their shit. As long as you both are fully clothed at the time, nothing too bad should happen.
And it felt like the most natural thing ever, patrolling together, the thugs being confused and wondering when you two became an item. Turning them into the nearby police station, avoiding cctv and returning to your new makeshift home as if it was the most normal thing ever. You had set up your own mini crime alert on Jonâs laptop and found ways to charge your devices. You even managed to spruce up the warehouse and upstairs apartment a bit, thank goodness Jon was raised normally and knew how to cook because you couldnât cook to save your life.
But naturally your respective families began to put the pieces together, and soon enough Oracle was watching.

Kinktober Day 7 - Squirting: Nesta x Reader x Cassian
A/N: Y'ALL... I am SO sorry for being AWOL for a hot minute, life got rough and my mental health was not it
TW: sexual themes including polyamory
word count: 1.93k
Kinktober Masterlist
NSFW under the cut
You and Nesta were cuddled up on a couch in the House of Wind. Ever since moving to Velaris from the Autumn Court, you and Nesta had been connected at the hip. While you did get along in many aspects, you mainly bonded over your love of smutty books.Â
You were both reading a book about a polyamorous relationship, which was a bit out of your normal reading habits. It was quite enjoyable but there was an idea on your mind that you just couldnât shake.
âHave you and Cass ever done that?â you asked Nesta. She smirked and moved slightly closer to you, her legs pressed up against yours and shoulders brushing.Â
âMaybe a few times,â you froze and looked over at her.
You blinked in surprise and to encourage her to continue, âYouâre not really just going to say that and not elaborate?â
Her hand reached up and twirled a piece of your hair around her slender fingers, âYou didnât ask for details, just if we had.âÂ
You rolled your eyes, âWell that is typically how a conversation starts, Nesta. One party offers up a topic and the other engages.â Despite your mild apprehension at the topic on hand, you relied on your trusty, silver-tongued wit to pull you through.
âWell not all of us were raised in the foxâs den of the Forest House.â
âThatâs for damn sure. Itâs definitely not for the weak.â
You could feel Nestaâs apprehension. You didnât often speak about the horrors you often witnessed and endured while living as a courtier under Beronâs rule. It was obvious that she wanted to comfort you but didnât exactly know how, as it wasnât really in her nature.
Your gaze returned back to the book in your hand, your thighs clenching as you tried to dampen the arousal stemming from the filthy scene gracing the pages. A comfortable silence washed over both of you until Nesta spoke up and threw you for a loop. âYou should join us sometime.â
You sat in shock for a few seconds, trying to digest the true meaning of her words. She couldnât actually be inviting you to sleep with her and Cassian right?
She glanced over at you and her steely gaze raked over your tense body, âNo words, love? I thought we just discussed how to have a conversation.â You must be dreaming because this was exactly what she was doing. She was absolutely inviting you to warm their bed with them.
You took a deep breath and tried your best to get your quivering heart under control.Â
âWell, I - I feel like an invitation like that necessitates a joint offer from both of you.âÂ
Nesta smirked at you and tilted her head, âTrust me, sweetheart. Itâs a joint offer.â Your cheeks flushed madly and you lightly gasped. The idea of Nesta wanting you was almost too much. Both of them wanting you and agreeing to invite you to their bed? Completely unfathomable.
With his utterly perfect timing, Cassian chose this exact moment to stroll into the living room - coming in from a late afternoon training session. He was of course - because the Mother hated you - shirtless. Your eyes roamed over his glistening muscles, finding your face heating up even more. âAnd what are you two ladies up to on this fine evening?â
Without looking up at him, âNot much, just mentioning to her what we spoke about the other night.â Cassian perked up at this and slowly strolled over to your side. Addressing just you, âAnd what do you think about that, love? Weâd love for you to join us sometime if youâd like to.â
You peered up at him and decided to play coy, pretending that your heart wasnât beating out of your chest. âDefinitely intriguing, Maybe youâll see later just how intriguing it is.â
Nesta smirked at your vague acceptance before placing a hand on your thigh and turned to Cassian. âHow about you go take a shower - you could use one - and maybe there will be a surprise for you when youâre done.â
He chuckled and sauntered off to their bedroom. She looked over to you, checking for any sign of apprehension. Finding none, she raised a hand to cup your cheek as she looked into your eyes. âAre you sure youâre alright with this? I donât want you to feel like you have to.â You smiled at this.
âNes, I havenât exactly hidden how attractive I find you - both of you, to be honest. You donât have anything to worry about.â
She visibly relaxed at your assurance. âIn that case, come with me.â She grabbed your hand and led you to the bedroom.
Cassian was already in the shower and she guided you to sit back on the bed, calves dangling off the end. Nesta placed her hands on your shoulders before moving to sit in your lap, her legs caging yours.Â
Your arms wrapped around her hips, pulling her close to you. She tilted your chin up and leaned down to kiss you. Her soft lips melded against yours as her tongue slipped into your mouth. You were completely content to let her take control.Â
One of her hands grabbed yours and slid it down to knead at her ass. You continued to kiss, slowly getting more and more heated as you shed each otherâs clothes. Completely forgetting about Cassian in the restroom, you were both almost naked save for small scraps of lace covering your chest.Â
When Cassian emerged from the washroom, he just leaned against the doorjamb and watched you. Nesta had shifted you up the bed and was perched on top of you as you laid down. âAm I interrupting something?â, Nesta quickly grabbed a pillow and blindly chucked it at his face.Â
You softly pushed both of you up into a sitting position before pulling away from her, âNes, be nice to him.â
She smirked back at you as her steely eyes ravaged your bare form, âIâll be nice once he deserves it,â she turned to face Cassian - âYou can go wait over there until weâre done and you know better than to touch yourself.â
Cassian sauntered over to the armchair facing the bed. Nesta clambered out of your lap and stood at the edge of the bed. You leaned back on your forearms and looked at her as she kissed up and down your legs. Suddenly, she grasped your ankles and pulled you to her.
She kneeled down and wrapped her hands around your hips as she licked and nipped up your thighs. You brushed a piece of her hair behind her pointed ear before she leaned in to softly lick at your clit.Â
Pleasure struck all throughout your body, making your toes curl. She moaned into your wet cunt as her lips wrapped around your clit. You glanced over at Cassian - he was leaning back into the chair, knuckles white with how hard he was gripping the arms of the chair.Â
You whipped your head back to Nesta as she nibbled on your bud, causing a new wave of slick arousal to gush out of you. âEyes on me, love,â She returned her attention to your center as two of her slim fingers slipped inside you.Â
The pads of her fingers brushed against that spot inside you, causing light moans and whispered expletives to spill from your mouth. You could hear Cassian writhing in his chair, struggling more and more to stay still as he watched his mate devour your wet cunt.Â
Your arousal was starting to overwhelm you, feeling like a wave pulling you under. The pressure started building from the pleasure Nestaâs hands and mouth were giving you and you gave into the bliss washing over you.
Stars graced your fading vision as your hearing muffled. You vaguely registered her moans as you gushed over Nestaâs face and hands. Your floating mind drifted back to your body as she licked the wetness off your thighs and whispered praises, âGood girl, always so good for me.â
She kneeled on the bed next to you, kissing you before swiftly moving you into a sitting position. You looked over at Cassian and smirked. His chest was heaving and his hands were running up and down his thighs, doing his best not to grip his throbbing cock. You slyly motioned him over to you before Nesta grabbed your hand.
âNot yet, heâll move when I say he can.âÂ
You glanced over at Nesta and scoffed. âPlease Nes, look at him. Heâs going to cum just sitting there if you ignore him any longer.â
She glanced back over at him, âFine, come over here.â
Cassian practically jumped out of the chair and kneeled on the other side of you, running his palm soothingly over your thigh. You glanced down at his cock and lightly gripped it at the base, feeling him twitch in your hand.
You smiled up at him as he groaned at the warmth of your hand. He walked around to stand between your legs, kissing them up and down. âSo pretty, doing so well for us.â
His praise immediately went to your head, your hips lightly bucking up towards him. Cassian smirked at you before lightly running his fingers through your wet folds. âNeedy tonight, arenât you?â
You barely suppressed a growl at his teasing, âBe careful, Cassian. Nes and I could easily just ignore you again. You wouldnât want that, would you?â
He smirked down at you before wrapping your legs around his hips and thrusting into you. The full force of him filling up your cunt knocked the breath out of your lungs, leaving you gasping for air as your eyes rolled back in your head.
Nesta gripped your hand and caressed your hair, aiding your heart in returning to a normal rhythm. âBreathe, love. Just relax.âÂ
His cock felt amazing, brushing up against the best spots inside you in just the right way. âOh, Mother help me - fucking hell!â
Cassianâs searing grip on your thighs heightens the sensations, already pushing you towards another orgasm. Nesta softly kneaded your breasts for a few moments before moving up to your head, climbing over you, and settling her wet cunt over your face.Â
Your hands rose up to her hips, pulling her center down onto your mouth. She moaned and pulled at your hair as your tongue swept through her folds. âShit baby, right there. Just like that.â
Nesta started to grind her hips above you, spreading her slick all over your face. Her sweetness enhanced your arousal, having you clenching around Cassianâs cock. âOh thatâs it, keep eating that sweet cunt while I stretch you out.â Cassianâs hips bucked into you at a rapid pace, his cock twitching inside of you.
Nestaâs moans pitched up and her breath caught in her throat as she fell over the edge. Her thighs tightened around your head, her slick gushing over your face and chest. Feeling her cum drip off your face unraveled the knot in your core, sending you reeling as you came on Cassianâs cock.
He groaned as you tightened around him and he spilled inside you. Nesta climbed off of you and disappeared into the washroom. As Cassian slowly pulled out of you, Nesta came back with a washcloth and gently wiped you down as Cassian massaged your shaking legs.
Nesta pulled you up and into the middle of the bed, squishing you in between her and Cassian as you cuddled on the bed. You shrugged on Cassianâs discarded shirt, curling up between them.Â

"Everyone's a Critic"
Pairing: Jason Todd x gn!reader Synopsis: Art is in the eye of the beholder... Word Count: 1861 Warnings: None. Art gallery meet cute. A hint of awkwardness and embarrassment!
Jason was used to being overlooked.
In a sea of bodies he often found himself standing still. A lone rock in the middle of a raucous tide that slipped around him, dousing his cold, weathered face with seafoam. It wasn't so bad, being a rockâespecially at events like these. Jason stood, like a rock, in the center of a crowd, and watched the crowd part around him.
Why would they look at him? He had mastered the art of appearing smaller than he really wasâbroad shoulders drawn into a tight hunch, obscuring his height. Eyes to the ground and his back to the wall. Ignore me, his presence seemed to say.
Why would they look at him when Dick fluttered about the crowd with a broad smile, a proverbial halo above his head from the soft, golden light of the venue? Why would they look at him when Tim's cleverness and etiquette outshone his? Why would they look at him when Damian spoke so maturely for his age, or Cass reveled in her most recent ballet performance, or Bruce existed?
Sometimes it was better to be the dead Wayne.
Sometimes.
The venue could have been worse. The Gotham Museum of Art was familiar to him these days, after Cassâs numerous performances and Bruceâs subsequent donations. Jason had lost track long ago of how many grateful galas had been hosted in thanks for his fatherâs contributions. They even had a plaque posted somewhere for Bruceâor was that Gotham General Hospital? He couldnât remember at this point.
It was easy to hide in the shadows between the paintings, the spotlights above them only spanning the canvasâs borders. Hide at the edge of the crowd, his head ducked down, shoulders drawn tight- it was what he always did.
Until a tittering couple pressed too close to him, admiring the painting he stood beside. Ivory nails tangled in a suit jacket, heels clicking against the parquet floors. Too loud. Too close. He pushed off the wall as they approached, ignoring the side-cast glances. He felt judged at events like this. He could handle being ignored, or even ostracized. But criticism hurt. He lifted his head for the first time in what felt like ages, taking in the crowd.
There. A quiet spot in front of a broad painting, its oil surface unmarred by the demanding gazes of the galaâs attendees. Jason pushed through the crowd with his head high, watching as the chattering sea parted around him. His long stride carried him through the throng as he fled his once barren spot and approached his newfound haven. His lips parted in a soft exhale at the sight of a benchâhe could sit with his back to the crowd and-
Jasonâs stride faltered. There was already someone sitting on the bench, a figure with their back to the crowd. How had he not noticed them before?
The spotlight on the art cast a soft glow across your front, blanketed in a warm haze that brightened the dark clothes you wore. A deep-gray blouse fading to black, well-ironed slacks. Jasonâs eyes dropped to your shoesâold and worn compared to the rest of the outfit. Tired, and scuffed, the black finish faded with age and wear. A cocktail server on break, it seemed.
When Jason lifted his gaze, he found you already staring. He jumped slightly, blinking once, twice. You smiled softlyâit was a bone-tired smile that eased the tension in your brow and smoothed the hard look in your eyes.Â
âSorry, IâŠâ he started, frozen like a deer caught in headlights. He rubbed the back of his neck and hunched his shoulders. âDidnât mean to bother you.â
âYouâre not,â you answered quietly. âDid you want somewhere to sit?â
âIf you donât mind.â
âI donât.â
Jason bobbed his head in a half-hearted nod and rounded the bench. He sat at the opposite side, putting as much space between the two of you as possible. He leaned forward and propped his elbows on his knees, eyes fixated on the ground for a moment. After a long pause, he lifted his head to take in the painting in front of him.
It seemed to come to life the longer he took it in. The background bustled with liveliness. Parents talkingâmaybe arguing, he thoughtâin a doorway. The preoccupied cat ignoring a mouse that went otherwise unseen. Childrenâs toys scattered at the edges of the canvas. His eyes roved over the child at the center of the canvasâs foreground, alone on a couch, gaze meeting the viewer. It was a modernized oil painting, vastly different from the Renaissance-like pieces that lined the wallâmaybe that was why this piece went ignored throughout the night.
âIt doesnât really fit the theme, but I still like it,â you spoke up. What he first took as timidity now seemed contemplative as he turned to see you gazing up at the painting. âSeems Iâm one of the few.â You shrugged, a tender smile across your lips.
Jason took in the muted colors of the background and the quiet intensity of the scene. âIt feels very⊠isolated.â You turned your head sharply to look at him, brows raising in surprise. He quickly looked between you and the painting. âItâs⊠the kid feels really alone, you know? Like the whole world is-â
âMoving on without him?â
Jason clamped his jaw firmly shut as he tipped his head to meet your gaze. Your eyes sparkled with warmth and excitement, chasing away the exhaustion that once clung to you.
âMoving around him,â Jason answered, holding your intense stare, his brows furrowing slightly. âHis parents are just-â he gestured to the painting, âignoring him, I guess. I mean, heâs alone in the center of the painting, while everything else is distracted. Look, even the wallpaper looks busy, and heâs just⊠wearing muted clothes and sitting on a gray couch.â
âItâs ivory and phthalo blue.â
âWhat?â
âThe couch. Itâs ivory and phthalo blue, and a little bit of brown umber mixed into the shadows. Not gray.â You cocked your head to the side and offered him a crooked, toothy grin. His eyes dropped to your lips before moving back to your eyes. âI⊠like your interpretation a lot. âMoving around him.â Youâre the first person tonight to give it any thought, honestly.â
Jason narrowed his eyes as he studied you, his brows pinched together. His usual scowl sat on his lips, the one that tended to drive people away. Instead, you smiled sweetly and turned your attention back to the canvas. You didnât stare through himâyou stared at him. For once, it didnât make his skin crawl. It didnât feel like you were forcibly filling the silence.
âI was hoping for some exposure tonight, really. You know, big Wayne event, good time to show off,â you said with a melodic chuckle that sent goosebumps down his arms. âBut no one seems particularly interested in my work. Everyoneâs a critic, right? Except you. You get it.â
Jason blinked owlishly as his brain raced to catch up.
âYou painted this?â
You hummed in the affirmative, gazing up fondly at your work.
His eyes snapped up at the painting and then back down to you. âIâm sorry, I- I just assumed you-â
âYouâre not the only one,â you answered quickly. His shoulders eased. You picked up on his meaning so quickly without an ounce of offense in your tone. âI donât really care how people do or donât, in this case, see me. At least one person took the time to look.â
The tension in your shoulders eased with a visible sense of relief. Tonight wasnât a total loss. Sure, you hadnât received any commissions, and had been asked to refill someoneâs drink one too many times, but there had been some success in the end. It only took one admirer to make hours of labor worthwhile.
âI think itâs beautiful.â
You jerked your head to stare at him, starved for feedback. âYeah?â
âYeah. I⊠donât know much about artâI prefer reading, honestly, but, uh, I think you did a great job with the colors. It does a really good job of framing the kid, yâknow?â Jason glanced at you, his cheeks warming at your dazzled expression before looking back at the painting. âHeâs muted, so it kind of draws your eyes to the middle instead of the super bright background. Itâs like the opposite effect of some of the others.â He gestured over his shoulder at a few of the other paintings. âIt definitely gives that⊠isolated vibe. I just⊠I guess it makes you wonder how the kid is feeling in all of this. He feels lonely.â
He could feel your heated stare grazing his skin. You werenât leering at him like some of the others did. He held on to the reverent silence and fought to quell the warm blush that dusted his cheeks.
âYou have a nice nose.â
Jasonâs face flushed scarlet. He snapped his gaze to yours, brows furrowed in confusion.
âWhat?â
âSorry, I-â His gaze dropped to your lips as they pursed in embarrassment and then parted with a shaky inhale. âI just- sorry, I do some sculpture on the sideânot very well, I think, but Iâm tryingâand, well, Iâve been working on this one piece and I just canât get the nose right, and you- youâve got a really nice nose and I was trying to⊠memorize it⊠for when I work on it laterâŠâ
Jason held your gaze for a long moment. You shifted nervously in your seat at the way he straightened his back and regarded you closely. Your mouth opened and closed, tongue feeling tacky against the roof of your mouth.
âIâm sorry, that was-â
âDo you have a picture of it?â
âOf⊠what?â
âThe sculpture. Can I see it?â
Your eyes widened as you blinked slowly at him, your mind racing to catch up. You tilted your head slightly to the side, staring at him in awe. âYeah, I⊠um, I donât have a picture, but- uh, my studio is only a couple of blocks away. Technically itâs the galleryâs studio-â you gestured widely to the gala venue. âBut I use it for some of my projects. You could- do you want-?â
He smiled. The stone-faced, impassive, wall of a man that you had been sitting beside for who knows how long actually smiled a full, toothy grin. The crooked scar that crossed over his cheek and jaw danced with a subtle grace. Crow's feet decorated the corner of his pretty green eyes. You wondered if you could maybe match their shade.
You took in a deep breath, held it for a moment, and then breathed out a soft sigh. His gaze dipped to your lips at the movement, then back to your eyes.
âWould you⊠want to come to my studio?â
âYeah, Iâd like that.â

I have a vent fic wip that I may or may not finish so I just need to tell someone that I am...feeling so many things all the time about the consequences of the 16th birthday but...
primarily, right now, at this moment. without Robin/Bruce, Tim thought he would lose Dick and everyone else he knew through Robin. and then a little bit later when he quit for Jack, he got radio silence for Months until he became a potential victim, and even then it was just Cass stopping in to give the message and be like "I'll watch you to keep you safe đïžđïž ok bye" and he had actual Proof that without Robin, he would lose everyone.
and then. Dick "you're my equal (even tho I'm drastically changing your life without your knowledge or permission), you're my closest ally (even tho you don't even have a name to go out in the field to assist me as backup), I need you (even tho, as mentioned, I made a huge decision without your input because I didn't need it because I know best actually)" Grayson.
skipping over the fact that Dick didn't even have the time to say "you're fired" or anything resembling that, when Tim lost "Robin" to Damian, he felt like he lost everything else too. it didn't matter what Dick said about "equals" or "allies" or "needing". he already had Concrete Proof that it was all false. cheap words that are easily disproven do nothing in this situation, Dichard!
(disclaimer: I love and respect Dick Grayson, I just also think Dick Stopped Existing as soon as he made Damian his Robin for the most pathetic stupid illogical risky-ass excuse he could ever give for making anyone Robin (or a vigilante in general). "because he'll kill someone again". who the fuck says that?? who thinks "oh no oh god oh fuck this kid is gonna go off the rails he's gonna kill someone, I need to Put Him In A Place Of Power Over Oblivious Innocent Untrained People Who Are Expecting A Kind And Empathetic Hero To Save Them" hUH???? ok sorry, I just wanted to rant about what Tim "losing Robin" meant)
I agree with ya. Dick Grayson is fantastic, but it seems weird that he nuked his entire relationship with Tim (a very strong one that other fans have referred to them as "The Brothers") for the new kid.
Yes, Damian is a ten year old traumatized kid who just lost the dad he didn't really have the chance to get to know. Yes, Damian needed guidance, boundaries, and compassion.
But DC spent so much time and effort building up Tim and Dick's rapport only to obliterate it once the "blood son" came in (I also love Damian. This is not hate on the kid. This is confused commentary on DC's choices). It's just a strange idea, but that's also why it hurts so much when Dick does that to Tim.
Then you tie in Tim losing Robin by Dick to Tim's experiences before? Fuck. You are so right for that.
As far as the RR run, Dick could've handled Tim believing Bruce a bit better. I don't necessarily blame him for that one. I get why he wasn't supportive in the way Tim wanted, even though I would've chosen differently for my siblings.
Dick taking Robin, though? That was fucked up. I, honest to the gods, do not see how that was a justified course of action. I can understand his perspective, but it's still not okay. At all.
There's your very adequate analysis:
Robin, for Tim, is his tie to his loved ones. He has proof (twice) that without it, he does not have access to the people he cares about and his support system.
Dick said a lot of pretty words about "equals," but his actions were precisely contradictory to his "intentions."
Tim has had Robin taken from him before or had to give it up. He chose to go back despite this. He obviously feels strongly about being Robin
Damian has not proven, at this point, to be trustworthy as a vigilante (someone in power without oversight). He has instead shown use of excessive force
This isn't even going into the way he found out. That's just an extra layer.
The way Tim has repeated lost and regained Robin (even after RR) as well as his title as Red ROBIN are, to me, a sign that he's still trying to hold on. It's my belief that he would have moved onto a new title, like his predecessors, if it hadn't constantly been an unsure role.
His start was rocky as hell due to Bruce not initially wanting it. Tim had to prove himself and put himself into the costume.
He "quit" twice before it was taken from him in a traumatic way (nothing like being instilled with the fear that the position you've held for four years can suddenly be yanked out from under you without warning)
Damian and Jason both vehemently protested to him being Robin
It would make sense if all of these factors combined to Tim's unwillingness or inability to just let Robin go, especially when we factor in his reason to be Robin. Since Bruce never really gets "better" and continually falls back into bad habits, Tim needs to maintain his task of pulling Bruce back from the edge. We could also throw Jean Paul into this to further how Tim is forced to play as the barrier between a grown adult and their desire to harm others in the name of good.
So, Tim's time as Robin is marked by consistent instability while contrasted with his inherent position as Bruce's leash and the batfam fixer. While the other Robins did have times of doubt, the predecessors of Tim did not have the pervasive role insecurity with regards to Robin.
They had their big moment at the end and some smaller moments in-between, but not quite on the continous scale of Tim. Tim had three big moments and was still sucked back into Robin when Damian quit.
To be Robin is to earn Bruce's love and the ability to be part of the Wayne family. To lose Robin is the risk of losing that (at least to the perspectives of the Robins if not 100% the reality).
I'm not sure I'm articulating this accurately. Regardless, no wonder Tim clutches the title of Robin with bleeding hands no matter how much it cuts him and costs him.

Being a five hundred year old fae, not many thingâs excited Y/n. But there were also a lot of things that did excite Y/n, and one of them was watching her husband fumble around trying to make her smile.
That morning, Y/n had woken up with a raging headache, the pounding in her head beating her brain like a wardrum. Add to the mix her hormones were all over the place at not finding herself waking up in the comforting embrace of her giant teddy bear.
She had been in a pissy mood all morning when Cassian returned home after his training session with the valkyries that lasted longer than usual.
Y/n had been glaring down at her plate of fried eggs that were not as runny as she liked, having lost touch with cooking them for herself because Cassian insisted on making her breakfast everyday when he walked in through the door to their marital home.
Of course, he did not realise that she was in a very bad mood and tried to joke around, trying to get her spirits to lift as usually that seemed to work.
"Looks like someone woke on the wrong side of the bed today, huh?"
Y/n turned sharply to glare at her husband who did not even have the decency to apologise for not being there for her when she woke with the headache that still refused to leave before making fun of her. The fucking audacity.
She had only glared at him for a long moment before turning and leaving to their bedroom, but that moment was enough for Cassian to catch onto the fact that she was mad mad.
It also allowed Y/n a glimpse of panic flashing in his eyes, for which she had felt guilty but she knew she needed time to calm down before talking to him.
And now, it was evening, and the puppy eyes Cassian watched Y/n with were making her heart melt.
How could someone be this adorable?
Heâd been at it the whole day. Bringing her her favourite pastries from a nearby bakery, running her a hot bath and slipping a note into the bedroom from under the door, making her dinner. When she had come down after a relaxing bath, he had even offered her a back massage.
His voice had been so light, but she heard the softness, the caution in it.
And Y/n had almost agreed to that massage that sounded so heavenly, but watching her husband be sad over her behaviour that morning ate her alive, and agreeing to let him cater to all her wants without realising that she was not mad at him felt like she was using him.
It had almost been an hour since he had offered, and since theyâd had dinner and moved to the living room. She had tried to make conversation with him, but he seemed lost in his own mind, offering her short responses before his eyes turned distant again.
Y/n did not need that bond between her and her husband to know that he was trying to figure out what heâd done wrong.
"Cass?"
He blinked, then looked away from her, his ears darkening before he met her gaze again. "Sorry, I didnât mean to stare."
Y/n raised a brow. "And so what if you did?" his brows furrowed, so Y/n hastened to add in case he thought she was still mad. "Iâm your wife, your mate. You can look however much you want."
"I⊠yeah."
Y/n sighed, then stood from the couch and walked over to the oversized armchair adjacent to the fireplace that Cassian occupied and settled down in his lap, trying to focus on formulating a coherent sentence and not on the way his warm hands immediately wrapped around her waist.
He watched her quietly, his eyes slightly wide.
Though those beautiful eyes fluttered shut when Y/n leaned in and kissed him.
It was not a full on kiss, if she had to be honest. It was just a tiny peck, even that faint brush of their lips sending pleasant warmth shooting through her veins.
"Thank you-" Y/n paused, watching her husband blurt out the two words with her brows tugging together.
"What- what did you say?"
He blinked, blood climbing up his neck. "I⊠thank you?"
Y/n could not help it anymore. She threw her head back and laughed, unable to control the shaking of her body.
"Cass, are you thanking me for kissing you?"
"Yeah? You were mad at me-"
"I wasnât."
He blinked again, then leaned back in the armchair. "What do you mean- why were you upset in the morning then?"
Y/n sighed, dropping her head into the junction between his shoulder and neck. "I had a raging headache when I woke up, and then I wanted to cuddle with you but you were gone. I was just upset at that."
He exhaled, raising his hands to run through Y/nâs unbound hair. "Iâm sorry love, I had to go. You know the blood rite is coming soon, and a lot more priestesses and illyrian women want to partake this year. Azâs been running himself ragged, and Gwynâs been so worried for him."
Y/n pulled back to meet his eyes. "Donât apologise for being you, Cass. I know you love to help and train, and I am not mad when I am blessed with the most amazing husband in all of prythian."
Cassianâs eyes turned glassy at that, and he softly kissed her forehead.
"Thank you-"
Y/n groaned, standing up again.
"I swear to the mother if you say that one more time Iâm going to bite you."
HIs expression morphed into a serious one, smile fading, and Y/n was once again reminded of his position in the night court. He looked more like his scheming general self that her sweet, adorable husband who pouted everytime Y/n did not give him five more minutes of cuddles.
"Y/n⊠thank you."
Y/n burst into an uncontrollable fit of laughter as she watched him leap out of his preferred seat and bolted up the stairs to their bedroom.
"Oh you cunning ass!"

Glazed Over Eyes
Based on this request.
Pairing: Azriel x Fem!Reader
Summary: Reader takes care of a very drunk, very clingy Azriel.
Warnings: Mentions of alcohol | Fluff
1.9k words
The Inner Circle had gone to Ritaâs. I had opted to stay at home with Amrenâ saying that she couldnât be trusted to watch Nyx alone as my excuse instead of going to the pleasure hall, besides, Iâd much rather be silently doing puzzles while listening to the music coming from beside the bank of the Sidra with the windows wide open.
Feyre and Rhys had come home with pink cheeks, nearly forgetting they shared a house with others, Rhys trying to mount his mate right in front of us. Amren banished them to their room with an annoyed look before returning to the nearly complete puzzle we only started an hour ago.
A moment later, Cassian is stumbling into the room with his arm hooked around a very sober, very annoyed Nesta. She lugs him behind her, he seemed too drunk to fly so they're most likely crashing here for the night. My brows crease when I notice my mate not following in after them. Azriel was hesitant to leave me here in the first place, not wanting to go to some kind of party without me there for him to retreat to when things got too loud. I encouraged him to go, to have fun. I was now worried he was having too much fun.
"Hey Nes?" I call before they can disappear down the hall. She turns to me with creased brows and tired eyes. "Hm?" She asks. "Do you know where Az is?" I ask worriedly, fidgeting with the hem of my shirt, she pales and looks at Cassian who is oblivious to everything but her. "Azriel?" She snaps her fingers in his face and he blinks, waking from his stupor. "Uh, last time I saw him he was cradling a whiskey bottle so it's anyone's guess." He says and I square ny features. "That's reassuring," I whisper. "Sorry, I didn't know I was on babysitting duty for both Illyrians." Nesta sighs as if she's truly let me down. "It's fine, take care of Cass. I'll check Rita's." I wave her off and she nods in thanks. "If you can't find him let me know, I'll help you." She gives me a soft expression and I give her a carefree smile. "Will do." I nod at her, knowing damn well I would be too busy panicking to ask anyone for help if I couldn't find him. She nodded and left down the hall with the huge male draped over her shoulders.
"Sorry Amren, I'll be back," I say, walking towards the front door. "Go, girl. Gods know he's probably found himself in a jail cell by now." She grumbled and I pale. "Comforting, thanks," I mutter before slipping out the door.
ïž”âżïž”âżïž”âżïž”
Rita's was abnormally loud tonight, or perhaps it was just my lack of intoxication. My brows crease as I scan the pleasure hall for my mate, pulling at the bond connecting us and getting an overwhelming amount of attention back, more than a tugâ a pull, towards him.
I don't hesitate to follow the golden tether, leading me right towards the bar.
I spot a familiar head of blonde hair, the girl flirting with the bartender as my mate lays his head down on the bar top.
I push past the crowd, eager to get over to themâ shoving drunk males off of me until I finally reach the duo. Mor didn't notice, busy making seductive eyes toward the bartender. I tap Azriel's shoulder and he groans. "I have a mate." He waves me off and I roll my eyes. "I know," I say, he whips his head up and looks at meâ eyes widening as he recognizes me. "I'm a genie." He smiled proudly and my brows twitched toward eachother, entirely confused at his giddy behavior. "I wished for you to be here, and now..." He searches for the right words in a long pause. "And now you're here." He finishes and all I can do is blink, bringing the back of my hand to his forehead. "How many drinks did you have?" I tilt my head and he smiles knowingly. "Just one, plus a few more." He shrugs innocently and I release a sigh. "You're drunk." I frown and he scratches the side of his cheek, staring at me blankly.
âIâm notââ hiccup. âDrunk.â He finishes and I arch a brow at him, my stare incredulous. âYouâre also not a good liar.â I chastise and he glowers at me, setting his empty glass down on the bar and turning to me fully. âIâm the shadow-master, itâs my job to lie.â He crosses his arms over his chest and I need to refrain from my giggle threatening against my lips. âYouâre the spymaster,â I correct and his expression falls.
âWhatever,â He brushes me off. âWords are dumb anyways.â The male grumbles and I laugh at his attitude. His cheeks flush pink and something tells me itâs not due to the alcohol. âYouâre so pretty,â He murmurs dreamily and I roll my eyes. âCan you kiss me please,â His hands find mine, pulling me closer with a yearning look. âYouâre drunk.â I remind and he groans, head going up to the sky before coming right back down to me. âDrunk on you.â He states as if that makes him any more sober.
I release a soft sigh, rising onto my toes and press a gentle peck to his lips. As I back away he looks at me with a glaze over his eyes, a dumbfounded smile coming to his lips. âThat felt good.â He mused and I shook my head in disbelief, wrapping his arm around my shoulders to support him as I dragged him away from the bar and towards the exit. âBye Mor!â I call back but I doubt she heard me, doubt she even noticed I was there with the way she was talking to the bartender.
Shadows swish around the both of us, causing the crowd to part a path for us, in fear of the shadow singer who, little did they know, was too inebriated to even think about harming anyone.
I lug him out of the bar. âCanât fly,â He mumbles. âI know,â I pat a hand on his chest reassuringly. âWill you throw up if I winnow?â I look up at him and he takes about three seconds too long to answer. âI suppose thereâs only one way to find out.â He shrugs. âOkay just, donât do it on me,â I instruct and he nods dutifully.
I winnow us back onto the lawn of our house, Azrielâs knees buckling and his hands coming down onto them, leaning over as if he was about to hurl. âYou okay?â I press a hand to his back and he nods eagerly, trying to convince himself. I comb his hair back, shadows swirling around the both of us until heâs fully recovered.
Slowly, he stands back up to his full height and drags his feet as we walk up the porch to our house, his arm around my shoulders yet again as he leans most of his weight onto me, wings just barely hovering above the floor as I open the door to our home, pulling him in with me.
âLetâs get you some water,â I say, leading him over to the kitchen and settling him down on a barstool. He sits unstably, staring at me with a stony look. I cautiously back away, afraid heâd tip over without my support, then walk into the kitchen. His eyes follow me with every step I take, shadows swirling around my legs and through my hair.
âHave you always been this pretty?â He asks unprompted, I flush, flicking my eyes up to him as I pour him a tall glass of water. âYouâre like, ultra-beautifulââ His words are cut off as he topples over off his chair and crashes down onto the floor.
I pale and set the glass down, rushing towards him and falling to my knees beside his body. He chuckled as he stared up at the ceiling, making me more worried than I should have been. âAre you hurt?â My hand comes to his cheek, scanning for injuries. âFrom when I fell from heaven?â He raises a brow at me curiously. âFrom when you fell off your chair.â I correct and he blinks slowly. âUh,â He mumbles like he has to think about it. âI donât think so.â He uttered and I giggled, now that I know he was okay. I help him sit up, grabbing the water from the counter and handing it to him.
âI didnât take you for a clumsy drunk,â I look at him quizzically. âThe spymaster is a very quiet, very precise male.â He speaks in the third person. âAnd very, very, very sneaky.â He adds with a hiccup and I shake my head, making sure he drinks every last drop of the water I gave him.
Once heâs finished I take the glass and help him up. Placing the glass in the sink, he drapes his arms over my shoulders, my hands coming to his forearms as most of his weight now relies on me. âCâmon, you big baby,â I grunt as I haul him towards our bedroom. âNot a baby.â He reminds me like Iâve forgotten. âSure,â I mumble, pulling him into our room and shutting the door behind us.
He makes the rest of the journey to the bed himself, flopping down onto it. âNo sleeping yet,â I grab him by the collar and pull him back upright, beginning to undo the ties of his clothes. He helps me with the undressing, shucking off his leathers as I walk over to the armoire and find a pair of lounge pants, tossing them at him.
He hums a soft tune to help him focus as he pulls the pants up. I wander into the bathroom, open the cabinet, and find a tonic to help with headaches, issued by Madja. I walk back into the room to find him beneath the covers, already half asleep.
âAz,â I call, and his humming halts, head raising to look at me. âThis is for the morning okay?â I hold up the small vial and he nods with a soft smile. âYou take such good care of me,â He sighs as I climb into the large bed beside him, his arm immediately snaking around my waist and pulling me into him. âI have to return the favor somehow.â I smile up at him, brushing his dark hair from his forehead. âThank you.â He mutters. I can only nod in reply. He leans down and presses a kiss to my forehead, then he pulls me upward and nuzzles his nose into my shoulder, pressing soft kisses there as well.
I comb my hands through his hair with a nurturing intent. Shadows settle around us, disappearing into the floorboards and corners of the room. Azriel releases a soft sigh of contentment at the feeling of his arms wrapped around me, my warmth consuming him. âLove you.â He murmurs tiredly. âLove you too,â I whisper back, and then his breathing steadies out as if thatâs all he needs to hear in order to fall asleep.
Sleep swallowed him entirely, and once I know heâs cared for and safe, only then do I allow myself to fall into a slumber of my own.

Hello. I hope everything this going well with you. I have to say I fell in love with your book boyfriend post and... It got me thinking on an idea I hope you can write for me.
So reader is the daughter of either feysand, necessian Or gywnriel ( sorry if I got the spelling wrong) and she is reading books which are way more smuttier than what the ladies read. And the dad is just not having it and momma is having that moment where she believes she raised her child the right way and is encoraging her.
Thank you and i hope you have a great weekend â€.
Like Mother, Like Daughter
Summary - After finding his daughter in the "I don't want Cassian to know I'm Reading Smut" Pose, girl dad Cass loses his cool
Warnings - girl dad cass, mentions of knife play and kink, smut
A/N - Happy @cassianappreciationweek! I should have posted this for family day, but day 7 it will be đ

"No," Cassian muttered to himself as he saw his daughter in an all too familiar pose. "No. No. No. No. No!" Each no grew louder as he observed her. The soft flush on her cheeks, the subtle way she bit her lip, the way her eyes were wide with excitement.
That pose was one Nesta mastered. One of the many he had named, and seeing his babygirl, his little y/n sitting in it had his heart feeling as though a Naga had ripped it from his chest. He stormed his way to her, ripping the book from her lap and gasping at the filth before him. "Y/n! What is this?!"
You were in shock, tea stilled near your mouth as you blinked at your now empty lap, "Um, my book?"
"This isn't literature! This is! This is! Oh, Cauldron! No!" Cassian could look away from the words, could stop reading the sentence about the mysterious warrior using his dagger for obscene acts on the young maiden. He could stop the way his gut twisted with each word. "This is worse than what your mother reads!"
You stared at him, wings twitching, "Dad, I'm 27. If I want to read smut, I ca-"
"You can not," he cried. "Not my daughter. Nope." His head was spinning as Nesta came into the room, looking between you two. He turned on her so quickly, striding to her with two steps and holding the book to her pointed nose. "What is this!? Who gave my daughter this?"
Nesta couldn't hide her smirk, those silver eyes lighting up as she took the book, "Oh, this is delicious. Who is this by, my sweet dove?"
"Some new author. They just go by Yarrow."
Nesta nodded at your answer, sitting next to you on the couch, "And you understand this is dangerous in real life?" She was satisfied with your nod before pulling you into her so both of you could read the scene being painted before you.
Cassian felt the air leaving his lungs. His throat grew tight as he tried not to scream. "Nesta, we need to talk," he grit out. "Now, please."
His mate held her finger to him, grabbing your pressed flower book mark from Aunt Elain before setting the book on the coffee table. "Yes?"
"She can not be reading this shit, Ness. She needs to read... Anything but that." He motioned towards the book he desperately wanted to throw into the fire. "This is completely inappropriate for her at her age."
Nesta only hummed, "She is reading books similar to what I did at her age. I do not understand what you are so upset about." You glanced between both of them, suddenly feeling so small, so insecure. "I would rather she is reading these things than going to pleasure halls and-"
"Do not finish that sentence," Cassian's tone grew sharp. "Do not even joke about my daughter doing something like that. Do not put it out into the world."
"It's a book," you whispered. "It is just a book. I like how the author writes. I love their use of language and structuring. I enjoy the way they build worlds. Yes, there is smut, but the world building in this series is fantastic. Everything is vivid, well layout, clear, consistent. I really enjoy the story. The smut is just a bonus."
"It's very well written," Nesta hummed. "Graphic without teetering the line of uncomfortable."
Cassian glanced between the two of you again, "I do not like it." He began to pace, "I am not comfortable with her reading garbage."
You shrunk slightly, "It's a fantasy series about found family, finding inner strength, and healing, Dad."
"It's a smut novel!"
"It's her choice," Nesta growled back. The room grew cold at that. Cassian sitting in a mix of fear and respect as he stared at his wife. "She is a grown female. If she wants to read smut, that is her choice. This is a much healthier option to so many other things she could be doing to explore her sexuality, Cassian. We should be proud this is the method she has picked and not whoring herself out."
Cassian seemed to pale at that. The image of you doing what he had done as a young male, racking a body count with different fae every week, scarring his mind. He didn't want that. He wanted better for you.
He picked up the novel, "This isn't the only type of smut you read, correct?"
"No," you answered softly. "I prefer dark fantasy, but I do soft things too. I just finished one you might actually like." You ran to your book shelf, grabbing the novella. "It's about a warrior and a lady. He partakes in a knights contest and she offers him her favor. Very strangers to friends to lovers, slow burn."
You handed the book to your dad, smiling as he looked at the romance novel hidden behind a black leather cover.
"I also have this one about a couple who met over summer, fell in love, she went away for something, family stopped their communication, she comes back, they're still in love," you ran back to grab the other book. "There's a super passionate rain storm kiss. It'd be neat to have that some day."
Cassian rolled his eyes as the books slowly piled up. The novels varied from great adventures with a kiss of smut to downright no plot. He let his eyes go to Nesta, watching as she stared at you with a look of pride, love, and admiration. "Hey," he whispered to his wife. "That's your hard work, Ness."
Nesta sighed dreamily, watching as you grabbed a 10th book and physically crawled into Cassian's lap, telling him about the fae King of Night who forced criminals into bargains before falling in love with a siren.
Cassian tugged the bond, sending his white flag to Nesta, a silent "You win," as you settled into his lap, showing him how the author of the first novel had built her world, the maps included, and the brief history that went into the fantasy smut novel.
He found himself in the same spot hours later, you asleep on his chest while he read a soft romance novel and Nesta read something that had her eyes going wide.
He decided then that perhaps this wasn't so bad. There could be worse things than having a daughter so much like her mother.

Young Love and Old Money (Cassian x Female! Reader) Part 12
Young Love and Old Money Masterlist
AN: Wow this took longer than I thought because I JUST graduated college, which has been a hard transition for me. Also in one of my grad photos I posed with ACOMAF and Fourth Wing and tagged both Sarah and Rebecca Yarros and REBECCA FUCKING DMed ME AND CONGRATULATED ME! So yeah that was insane.
Summary: She was the most beautiful woman in Prythian, sister to the High Lord of Night, and now she is the soon-to-be wife of Eris Vanserra. Despite her many titles and her aura of unattainability, Cassian can't help but fall deeply in love with the princess of the Night Court. But will it be enough to stop her impending wedding to a man who is sure to destroy her from the inside out?
Warnings: Smut, mating bond being accepted, territorial Cass, angst for Rhys
Word Count: 5,535
âAnd this is really what you want?â Rhysand asks me for the one-millionth time.Â
âYes brother,â I assure him, taking his hands in mine.Â
âNo ornate, over the top mating ceremony? No wedding with all seven courts in attendance? Need I remind you that you are the Princess of Velaris, The Jewel of Prythian. I am the High Lord of Night, simply speak it and it is done,â Rhysand fusses.Â
I canât help but laugh at his eagerness to lay the world at the feet of his little sister. He had already given me our motherâs sapphire encrusted diadem as my something blue and had the small temple decorated in faelights and night blooming jasmine. I could practically smell the sweet flowers from the other side of the double oak doors before me. If I peeked through the crack I would see my handsome mate, my cousin, Azriel, and Amren, all waiting for Rhys to walk me down the aisle.Â
âRhys, I already had a larger than life wedding. I want this one to be intimate and sweet, just my family,â I assure him and I see his shoulders relax.Â
âIâm sorry that Autumn Court traditions didnât allow me to walk you down the aisle last time,â he smiles, offering me his arm, which I take.Â
âItâs okay that was just the practice wedding,â I tease, bumping into his shoulder.Â
Rhys barks out a laugh, a real one, a sound I hadnât heard from him in a long time. He looks over at me one last time, taking in my appearance before placing a kiss on the top of my head, âYou look beautiful sister. Cassian is truly a very lucky male.â Â
I smile, smoothing my dress over one last time before the double doors open to reveal the beautiful temple and my mate turns to meet my gaze.
The soft faelights cast a warm glow throughout the temple and the smiling faces of my family meet me as Rhys leads me down the aisle. Mor looks so happy she might squeal, Amrenâs face dons a small smile, the biggest one Iâve seen from her, ever. Azriel looks at me for only a moment before turning his head to Cassian, watching his brother's reaction to seeing his future wife and mate.
Cassian was dressed immaculately, in one of the many jackets that he wore to the Autumn Court balls. But I didnât care much about how he dressed, I was more focused on his eyes, how they glassed over as I walked closer to him. Such happiness and joy that lie in them, like he had been waiting for this day for many years.Â
As I step up to him Rhys passes my hand to Cassianâs with a knowing glance. My general looked down upon me like I was the most precious thing he ever beheld. I squeezed his hands tighter to assure him that I was real.Â
âYou are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, my love,â Cassian smiled before turning to the priestess.Â
I donât have time to say anything before the priestess begins to speak, seemingly more eager than the rest of us.Â
âWe gather here today to bear witness to the union of these two beings. If anyone should have any reason why these two shall not be joined please say so at once.â the priestess says.Â
âThis is also the time when I remind everyone that I have a knife,â Cassian says under his breath, earning a laugh from all of us.Â
âVery well,â the priestess giggles. âDo you, y/n, youngest sister of our High Lord Rhysand and Princess of Velaris, take this male to be your lawfully wedded husband? In sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, as long as you shall live?â she asked me.Â
âI do,â I smiled seeing the love pouring from Cassianâs eyes as I slid the simple gold band on his finger. There might have been five other people in the room but I couldnât care less. Cassianâs hands gave mine a gentle squeeze, his way of showing me how happy he was to hear me say those two little words.Â
âAnd do you, Cassian, General of the Night Courts Armies, take this female to be your lawfully wedded wife? In sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, as long as you shall live?â the priestess asks, looking at Cassian. He didnât even notice her.Â
âHell yeah I do,â he laughs, earning a laugh from our family once more as he places his motherâs ring on my hand.Â
âPrincess if you would,â she said, gesturing to the small blackberry tart on the plate before her.Â
When I asked Cassian what he wanted as his official mating offering he didnât hesitate to ask for a blackberry tart. I was puzzled at first until he explained that we met because of a blackberry tart. The first day he saw me, reading on the couch of the townhouse he and Azriel had come over because my mother had made us all blackberry tarts. It was after his story that I realized he had thought about this for a long time. Â
I picked up the small pastry off the ornate plate and offered it to Cass. He plucked it from my hands like it was made of porcelain and took a bite, berry staining his lips. I couldnât help but reach a hand up to wipe the mess from his face.Â
âCongratulations you two, you are now mates as well as husband and wife,â the priestess smiled fondly, taking a step back.
âCâmere you,â Cassian smirked, pulling me into a kiss.Â
His mouth melded against mine, and immediately things feltâŠdifferent. They were deeper, stronger. The bond between us seemed to glow even brighter. I felt Cassian dip me, in order to kiss me deeper, earning cheers from our family, especially Mor. When we came up for air I felt like my skin was on fire, the need to touch and feel all of my mate consuming my very soul. Like all moral code I had was thrown out the window. I barely felt it when we broke apart for air. The only thing bringing me back to reality was Cassianâs hazel eyes darkening.Â
âRhys Iâm sorry to say this, but Iâm going to go fuck your sister now,â Cassian jested picking me up bridal style and walking back down the aisle.Â
The sound of my brotherâs protest and the familyâs laughter followed us as we launched skyward the cold night air whipping my dress around. The stars seemed brighter tonight as we flew over the Sidra, making a beeline for the House of Wind. It wasnât uncommon for mating ceremonies to end so abruptly, but most of the time the couple would give their thanks to all in attendance before caving to the frenzy. Then again since when were Cassian and I a normal couple?
We landed on the terrace of the House of Wind and the second we were on solid ground Cassian kissed me, not even stopping to put me down.Â
âCass put me down!â I laughed between kisses.Â
âOver my dead body, we're going straight to our room,â he smiled storming off towards the door.Â
Thatâs right, our room. I had moved all my things into his room just yesterday. Thankfully he didnât have much of a wardrobe so my thousands of dresses fit perfectly.Â
The house thankfully opened our bedroom door for us, but it closed promptly with a slam as Cassianâs foot kicked it shut. I felt my feet finally touch the ground as greedy hands roamed my waist.Â
âYou are truly the most beautiful bride, I am so lucky to have you,â Cassian beamed, taking in every inch of me.Â
âIâm far luckier to call you my mate and my husband,â I hum, kissing him again as I begin ripping the buttons of his shirt open.Â
âThatâs right youâre my wife now,â he exclaimed, kissing me deeply. âIâve waited so long to call you my wife y/n, you have no idea.âÂ
I felt his hands wander to the buttons of my dress, he fumbled with a few before the thing was ripped in two, buttons ricocheting off every wall and surface in the room. I gasped as the cold air hit my bareback. I took a step back to reveal my surprise for my husband, one Mor insisted I needed tonight.Â
As the intricate wedding dress pooled at my feet my white lingerie was revealed. I remembered when Mor took me shopping at her favorite shop, she claimed it was nonnegotiable, and as Casssianâs eyes nearly popped out of his head I could see why.Â
âFucking hell,â he moaned closing the distance between us by grabbing me by my waist. âPinch me baby thereâs no way youâre my wife,â he said, wandering his hands up and down my body setting my skin on fire.Â
âWhy donât you get on your knees Cass,â I whisper in his ear, knowing his second surprise is waiting for him there.Â
My general, and the Lord of Bloodshed, falls to his knees before me without even a protest. His eyes fell directly on the garter I was wearing on my thigh. Seemingly plain and white, but I smirked as his eyes widened once again as he saw the customization on it. Â
Embroidered on the garther in red thread, read one name.Â
âCassianâ
âYouâre going to kill me princess,â he groaned, pressing his head against my thigh.
I couldnât help but laugh at his reaction to the fabric around my thigh as I ran a hand through his hair, âSo itâs safe to say you like it?â I ask.
âLike it? I fucking love it baby. Iâm fucking you with this one tonight.â He smirks leaving open mouthed kisses on my thigh.Â
âDamn it that thing is scratchy,â I giggle. I wasnât lying, the lace had been rubbing against my leg all day.Â
âThen allow me to take it off for you,â he said, pressing a kiss just above the lace. âCanât have anything marring my princessâ perfect skin,â he smirked before grabbing the fabric with his teeth and pulling it down my leg.Â
The sight of his dark eyes locking on mine as the lace slid off my leg was enough to have my knees buckle. Thankfully his hands on my hips kept me stable as the garter slid off my foot. He chucked the thing clear across the room before standing and picking me up in one fell swoop. Â
I couldnât help but giggle as he laid me ever so gently on our shared bed. Staring down at me, taking in every single inch of me.Â
âMy beautiful, beautiful mate,â he breathed, leaning over me to press a kiss to my lips before trailing his mouth down my neck. âBeautiful, exquisite, and all fucking mine,â he groaned accentuating each word with a kiss. Â
âCassian,â I breathed, feeling his mouth traveling to where I needed him most. âI need you now,â I pleaded.Â
âShhh not yet wife, I want to taste you first,â he grinned placing a kiss atop my clothed core before sliding the white lace down my legs and discarding it with the garter.Â
A series of kisses lined my core before he parted my folds, licking a long stripe up the center of me flicking his tongue at my clit causing me to arch my back off the mattress. He took his time, swirling and suckling on every part of me. When his fingers slid into me slowly but surely it had me crying out in pleasure.Â
IÂ looked down to where my husband feasted on me, his eyes staring directly into mine. He watched my every reaction to his tongue and his hands as he brought me closer and closer to the gods themselves. Those hazel eyes turned dark brown as they devoured every gasp of pleasure I let out.
âCass Iâm going to-âÂ
âCum baby, I want my wife to cum all over my fucking face,â he growled thrusting his fingers into me faster. The change in his voice was so drastic, so deep it had me doing just that.  Â
I knew the fae were more primal, more needy during their mating but I had no clue it would be like this, no clue I would love it as much as I did. As I came down from my high I realized how badly I needed him unleashed, needed all him.Â
âFuck you taste so fucking good mate,â he groaned licking up whatever juices I left over.Â
âCass I need you,â I said with a guttural sound that didnât even sound like me.
His eyes snapped up from my cunt to me, somehow even darker than they were moments ago. He crawled up my body, a look in his eyes that could only be described as pure male pride as he said with a smirk.
âYeah wife? You need me?â he grinned, placing open mouthed kisses over my collarbones.Â
âYes Cass, I need you. I need all of you,â I pleaded, my nails raking down his now bareback. When his shirt had come off? I didnât know.Â
âIâm not myself right now y/n,â he gritted, trying to show restraint. âIâve never needed you as badly as I do now.âÂ
âTake me Cass, I want you unleashed,â I begged, pulling him closer to me, just needing to feel his skin brush against mine.Â
His pants were quickly discarded to wherever my clothes had gone and I felt his hard cock brush against my stomach. I found myself subconsciously bucking into it like my body was forcing me to. He thrusted inside me in one motion filling me to the brim and causing us both to let out unnatural sounds.Â
âAh oh godâs Cassian, it feels so good!â I cried, finally feeling the relief of having him inside me.Â
The only response I got from Cassian I got was a low growl as he started rutting inside of me. The sensation was almost too much to take. I knew that once the mating bond was accepted sex was different. There was nothing in the world that could compare. It was part of what made the mating bond so special.Â
As I felt Cassian thrusting into me, and heard his moans of pleasure as my walls clenched around him I wondered if I would ever get enough of this. If I would ever be truly satisfied. No wonder they called it the frenzy, I could sleep with him inside me and I would still need more.
âHoly fuck baby you feel so good,â Cassian grunted, his face tightening in the process.Â
âCassian!â I screamed, unable to remember anything but the name of my mate.Â
âWhoâs fuckin pussy is this?â he roared, setting a brutal pace.Â
âYours Cass,â I cried, feeling myself falling over the edge at his words.Â
My orgasm ripped through me like a tidal wave, the pleasure branding my every nerve as I felt the aftershocks all over my body. I had never felt this way before.
âFuckkk,â Cass moaned, sitting himself inside of me as I felt his load coat my walls.Â
He collapsed beside me cradling me to his chest, both of us sweating and breathing heavily. My legs trembled from the aftershock of my release.Â
âShit princess, are you okay? Did I hurt you?â Cassian asked, tilting my chin up so he could assess my face.Â
âNo, no Iâm fine,â I assured him before collapsing on his chest again.Â
âIâm sorry I got a little rough there, it was-âÂ
âThe bond,â I said, finishing his sentence. âDonât worry I feel it too.âÂ
The heat returned to that spot between my legs and suddenly I needed to be closer to him, even though I was lying on top of him. I lifted my head to press kisses to his bare chest, my favorite activity to do.Â
âY/n if you donât stop Iâm gonna-âÂ
âI need you Cassian,â I said, cutting him off again with another kiss to his pec.Â
His eyes lit up in amusement as he placed my hips over his already hard cock. I started grinding on him like my body was on autopilot.Â
âWho am I to deny a princess?â he smirked, pressing a kiss to my lips.Â
âWe might be here a while,â I breathed, grasping his hair to pull him closer.Â
âI can live with that,â he smiled. Â
Cassianâs POV:
As expected the mating frenzy lasted about two weeks. Hell it wouldâve been longer had Rhys not sent Azriel to break up the love fest. Apparently, there was still work to be done and my presence was needed at Windhaven. Devlon had been slacking in recruiting new troops, and with a war looming, and no Autumn Court soldiers to aid us, that wasnât going to fly.Â
Thankfully with a few ass kickings, Devlon finally got his shit in gear, and more Illyrians were being recruited and trained. Every day I flew up to impart my wisdom and of course make an example of a few of the older soldiers who thought they were ready for battle.Â
The days were long, but it only made coming home to my mate all the more sweeter. I used to come home to an empty bed and a glass of whiskey, maybe even a female if I was lucky. At least I used to think I was lucky back then. Nothing compared to seeing y/nâs smiling face as I walked through the door every day.
Sometimes she would be reading a book and I could sneak up on her and kiss her on the cheek. Other times she would sneak up on me and wrap her arms around me before telling me I was stinky and needed a bath, a bath she always happily joined me in. One that was more fucking than it was washing.Â
âPrincess, are you almost ready?â I asked her, knocking on the bathroom door once again. Â
With things in the camps finally starting to run according to schedule I finally had time to train y/n as she had asked me to. I couldnât believe that she thought I wouldnât want to. I had never been more proud of her for wanting to give herself that freedom, that peace of mind to know that she could defend herself if need be. I was grateful to be the one to help her. So grateful in fact that I went out and bought her some Illyrian training leathers.
She nearly squealed at the sight of them, but the second she touched them her face contorted. She told me that she was scared to wear them because even though she was half Illyrian she didnât have wings. To which I explained to her that if anyone dared say a word about it they would find their head on a pike. Not that I thought anyone in Windhaven would dare insult their generalâs mate.Â
âYeah I think so, are they always this tight?â she asked, throwing open the bathroom door.Â
I had seen my mate in lavish dresses, wedding dresses, lingerie, and nothing at all, but seeing her in Illyrian fighting leathers? It was going to be a lot harder to keep my focus than I thought.
âCass?â she chimed, snapping her fingers to get my attention.Â
âOh- um,â I stumbled. âYes they are, they create less drag when flying and they keep your opponents from having something to grab onto,â I explain to her, unable to keep my eyes from wandering over her body.
âI suppose that makes sense,â she said, turning to look at herself in the mirror one last time. âIâm ready to go then.â Â
We made our way to a terrace giving Azriel a wave as we took flight. It mightâve been faster to winnow to Windhaven, but I didnât mind flying with y/n in my arms one bit. Not when I spent days thinking I never would again. Not when this relationship between us was so new. I still felt like it would be ripped away from me at any given moment, Cauldron knew everything else in my life had been.Â
The weather in Velaris was beginning to warm up as spring was approaching, but in the Illyrian mountains there was still snow on the ground. As we neared Windhaven I felt y/n shiver and instinctively pulled her closer to me. I hadnât told Devlon that we were coming to use the sparring ring and the practice grounds. I didnât need to, I was the general, and more importantly y/n was their princess. Granted a princess they had never seen before, but still their superior nonetheless.Â
Confused faces graced every man woman and child as I touched down at the edge of camp with y/n. They had all of course heard stories of y/n, maybe even seen paintings of her, but they had never once seen her in the flesh. Even though news traveled slowly here it wasnât hard to guess who she was, not with all the stories of her beauty. I remembered Eris recounting oneâŠ
âEyes like a storm, skin soft as rose petals and hair like threads of silk. The Jewel of Prythian and the weakness of every maleâŠâ
As we walked through the camp I understood why y/n hated large crowds so much. I remember she once told me that walking through a ballroom felt like being a painting put on display. As we walked hand in hand I noticed that every pair of eyes that found her also found me, which set me on edge. I looked down to see her blissfully unaware like she was completely unbothered by their stares. Still, I would keep on my toes.Â
We approached a rogue training ring near the edge of the camp, and I felt y/nâs body language lighten as she ran over to a rack of wooden weapons picking up a sword. The look on her face was so enthusiastic I couldnât help but smile at her.Â
âYouâre not quite ready for that one,â I laughed watching her swing the sword around like a toy.Â
âAre you kidding me? Does this look ânot readyâ to you?â She challenged, pointing the sword at me.
I cocked an eyebrow at the dull wood pointing at my chest. In one movement I grasped the end of the practice sword in one hand and pushed her down with the other. She fell to the mat with a thud, looking up at me like a toddler.Â
âHey!â she protested dusting herself off as I put the fake weapon back with the rest.Â
âYou asked me to treat you the same as I would any of my troops. Are you taking that statement back?â I challenged her.Â
âNo I just didnât know you were going to push me,â she huffed.Â
âOh, Iâm gonna do a lot more than just push you, princess,â I laughed ruffling her hair which was in a simple braid. âIf you want to wield a sword you have to be strong enough for it. Which means we're going to be working on those muscles first.âÂ
âOkay let's do it!â she exclaimed. âWhere do we start?âÂ
âYou, start by giving me three laps around camp to get warmed up,â I said sitting on a nearby rock.Â
âYouâre not joining me?â she asked, crossing her arms.Â
âAnd miss the view of you running away in those pants? Not a chance princess.â I smirked, getting comfortable where I sat.Â
To my surprise, there were no further protests as she collected herself and began running around the camp. I was right about the view of my mate running in those tight Illyrian leathers, it would be a miracle if I let those things get home in one piece.Â
Y/n âs first lap around the camp was a quick one, I forgot to tell her that it wasnât about getting the laps done quickly, it was about warming up. I supposed that learning from oneâs mistakes was the best way to learn though. Once she got through her second lap she had slowed down and by the time she came back to the mat her breaths were ragged.Â
âBy the cauldron how do you do that?â she asked out of breath.Â
âThat was three-quarters of a mile princess, my warm-up is five miles,â I laugh standing from the rock.Â
Her eyes nearly pop out of her head at my words. She straightens up trying her best to control her breaths.Â
âNow drop and give me twenty push-ups,â I said pointing to the mat. Y/n raised her eyebrows and started doing her pushups as asked.Â
It wasnât until a few moments later that I became acutely aware of the presence around us. Without turning my body from where my mate did her exercises, I lifted my gaze to find women and soldiers alike staring at y/n. I tried to act as if I didnât see them there, turning my attention to my wife once more where she stood, wiping the sweat from her brow.Â
âGood now letâs try something else,â I said, walking over towards the rack of weapons and grabbing weighted gloves. âPut these on and let's see how youâre able to swing.âÂ
I watched as she tied the gloves on and tried to hide my smile as the things flopped around her small hands. I could get her custom ones made later but for now, these would do. She put her hands up like she was ready to fight me and I helped her adjust her position to one that she might actually use.
âAlright now Iâm going to hold out my hands and youâre going to punch in sequence, right, right, left, right. Do that over and over again.â I instruct her to hold up my bare hands.Â
âArenât I going to hurt you though?â she asked, peering from behind her gloves.Â
âOne day you will,â I laughed. âBut I promise I can handle a beginner. Now come on, lay a couple on me.â Â
She cocked her head to the side as if she was still questioning my toughness, which was a slight bruise to my ego. Once she did the sequence a couple of times and I didnât so much as flinch I could feel pride floating down the bond. Like she was proud to have me as a mate.Â
My thoughts were interrupted as the interlopers aside us continued to ogle and whisper about us. Their numbers having doubled since the last time I looked. Y/n was completely focused on the series of punches, muttering the order under her breath. I couldnât help but try and listen in on two females standing by us.
âIs that the princess?âÂ
âWhy would the princess be here with the general?âÂ
âIâm not sure but she looks like a painting of y/n that Iâve seen before.âÂ
Y/n continued her exercises until I stopped her, as I wanted to try out a different sequence. I corrected her stance once more and made sure she was holding her fists properly before she picked up on the new pattern. My eyes flitted to a group of three or four soldiers looking at us and listened to their exchange. Â
âWho the hell is that with the general?âÂ
âI think itâs the princess.â
âThatâs not the princess you idiot, why would she be here? Rhysand keeps her locked up tight.âÂ
âWell, whoever she is Iâm definitely taking a piece of her before I go home,âÂ
The male who made the final comment flared his wings as if to try and get y/nâs attention.Â
I dropped my hands feeling a few of y/nâs lingering punches bounce off my chest before she realized what was happening.Â
âHey I was doing good!â she protested, attempting to raise her weighed down hands in the air.Â
âYeah thatâs enough training for today,â I said tightly before sweeping her up in my arms and taking off into the air. Weighted gloves and all.Â
âCass!â she shouted over the winds. âWhat was that about? We just started!âÂ
âThe whole camp was eye fucking you, we can train at home. Iâll bring some weights and equipment tomorrow,â I grumbled remembering the male's greedy eyes.Â
âYou territorial Illyrian prick!â she laughed, smacking me on the chest.
âHey cut me some slack! The mating bond is still fresh!,â I laughed and the second I said it I saw the understanding fill her eyes.Â
âYouâre lucky youâre so handsome,â she sighed leaning her head on my shoulder.Â
I gave a small chuckle as we continued the short flight home. Training could start up again once we arrived at the townhouse. It would be easier to train her in private and more fun for when things got a littleâŠwellâŠheated.
y/nâs pov:Â
Today marked a day I had hoped would never come. Feyreâs wedding.
When I told my brother of the planned event he said that he was well aware of his mate's upcoming nuptials. I begged and pleaded with him to call in his bargain with her just once, just to give the female a chance to get to know him, but he refused. Even Cassian told him of the pain he felt when I married Eris. But Rhys was steadfast in letting Feyre be happy, and in the end, I let him do it, for every time I spoke her name there was a sadness in his eyes I couldn't stand to see.Â
âHey,â I said quietly, stepping onto the balcony of the townhouse where Rhys stood.Â
Cassian sat dutifully inside waiting for his brother with a glass of whiskey. It was going to be a long night, and he had offered himself up as Rhysâ drinking buddy, an offer my brother happily took. I just wanted to speak to my brother once before Azriel took me home.Â
âHey sis,â Rhys said, looking worse for wear.Â
As usual, his image was perfect. A perfectly tailored suit, hair set in place, a clean shave. But his eyes held all the sorrows of the world. Grief I wouldnât wish on my worst enemy. I realized that this is exactly how Cassian felt the day I married Eris, and in that moment my heart broke twice.Â
âCassianâs inside with a couple of bottles of whiskey,â I gave him a half hearted smile wrapping an arm around him.Â
âThat was nice of him,â Rhys grinned weakly, tugging me closer to him.Â
âDonât give him too much credit he stole it from your liquor cabinet,â I laughed looking up toward my brother. I barely recognized him in this state.Â
âWhy am I not surprised,â he said, turning toward me. âDo you and Mor have everything you need for girls' night? You have enough wine and snacks right?âÂ
âRhys,â I said, squeezing his hands. âYou donât always have to be so brave, you know? Itâs okay to grieve. Especially with me, we promised no more walls, no more secrets.âÂ
I saw his violet eyes begin to glass over as he took in my words. In a way I was happy he felt he could be vulnerable with me again, that he didnât have to wear the mask with me. However, I was sad that these were the circumstances.Â
His arms pulled me into a tight hug and I felt his body shake ever so slightly, either in relief or in sadness. As I felt a drop on my bare shoulder I knew it was the latter and it killed me inside.Â
âIâm going to lose her forever. Sheâs my mate and Iâll never even get to hold her.â he cried, his voice breaking.Â
âRhys Iâm-âÂ
âIâll have to sit here and watch her love him for the rest of my life,â he breathed.Â
All I could do was hold him closer as I felt him breaking in my arms. The misery he felt echoed throughout the Illyrian mountains, and I wondered if today would be the day they finally crumbled. Before I could even try to console my brother he straightened, releasing me from his grasp and staring into the air behind me.Â
âWhat? What is it?â I asked, grasping his shoulders.
âI-Itâs her. Itâs Feyre.â he stumbled as if coming to a shocking realization.Â
âWhatâs wrong, is she hurt?â I panicked, willing to follow him anywhere to ensure her safety. The female wasnât just my brother's mate, she had saved him from under the mountain, saved all of us, and saved me. I owed her my life.
âShe wants to stop the wedding, sheâs begging for someone to help- anyone to help.â Rhys rambled looking around him as if he was looking for some sort of sign.Â
âRhys⊠RHYS!â I shouted finally getting his attention. âGo get her,â I pleaded with him.Â
Before I could get another word in he disappeared into a cloud of shadows, no doubt going to the Spring Court. Going to his mate.
To be continuedâŠ

Hello there ! I'm such a big fan of your work and i wanted to know if you could please write about azriel x plus size reader (cause curvy Queens deserves that giant bat too) ? Maybe something about her having insecurities BC azriel IS surrounded by beautiful slim women and she think that hes's in love with one of them until they're in a fight and he confesse his love to reader. AT first she can't believe it but she goes to cassian who's like "are you seriously that blind? He loved you the moment he looked a you ???" And then you Can add Smut were he workships her, i won't be against it (only if you're confortable with it obviously)
Big thanks for all your work and i looove you !!
Sorry, this took a moment. đ«§đ€
Picture perfect
In a way, you always felt like a misfit. It wasnât only because of your looks. If you were to be frank you didnât nitpick at yourself till others started throwing comments here and there. Planting these tiny seeds in your brain. Ones that bloomed it obstructed your vision, altering it in ways that made you cower in the big crowds of people. Made you avoid parties. Made you blind to so many other things.
Your saving grace for a long while had been Azriel. A childhood best friend who had seen you at your worst and stuck through it. So you felt comfortable with him. And even if he wasnât big on speaking or voicing his opinion. One thing he never missed was completing you. You had always brushed it off. He was a spymaster after all. So, what if he noticed that you colored your hair slightly? Or curled it in another way. Or that you bought a different style of dress. Or got a new perfume. Rhys paid him to be observant, right? It was that until he had sat you down by the river one evening. And blurted out that he liked you while falling over every other word.
âNo, you donâtâ, you had whispered. âWhat do you mean, no, I donât?â, he had pulled back in confusion. âAs friends yes but not like⊠romanticallyâ, you shrugged. Considering that you had fully convinced yourself that he would never fall for you. Not when he could have anyone. âYn, I know how I feel and so that means that I like youâ, Azriel said more firmly as you let out a low laugh, âWhy are you doing this?â, you moved to stand up. âDoing what? Yn, if you donât feelâŠâ, he had moved to stand up but you were already stepping back from him. âI saw you with Sybile by the fountain today, donât play games with me because Iâm an ugly ducklingâ, you had hissed at him. Leaving him standing there all confused.
And now for the past week, you had done everything to avoid him. Feeling your heart ache more and more now that he wasnât there to lean on. So your days were spent mopping over the past as you looked out the window till it got pitch black and you forced yourself to crawl into bed.
âOkay, I physically cannot take any more of thisâ, Cassian had strolled into the house of wind. A box of your favorite pastries in one of his hands. âThen I donât know why you are hereâ, you huffed turning away from him. âIâm here because I apparently having the biggest brain out of the two of youâ, he chirped, turning your chair so you would face him. âI highly doubt itâ, you crossed your arms over your chest as you looked up at him. The general only smirked, he was used to tough bickering with Nesta.
âI will put this very simplyâ, Cassian said before shoving a donut into his mouth. âAzriel had been an ass. You had been up here for the past weekâ, he said with crumbs falling from his mouth, making you grimace.
âCanât you chew andâŠâ, âShhâ, he waved a powdered sugar-covered finger at you. âNow⊠You know why all of that happened?â, he asked as if you were a toddler. âYes, Cass, I know. We foughtâ, you grumbled. But the general only made a dissatisfied boo. âYou two are like that because you like each other but your head is more up your ass than his wasâ, Cassian clicked his fingers.
âThat is not trueâ, you argued, tearing a part of an apple tart. âWhatâs keeping you from saying yes to him?â, now this hit you harder than you thought, making you stare up at him for a split second. You knew there was no point in lying. This man would sense a lie before it had a chance to leave your mouth.
âIâm not his typeâ, you muttered under your breath, already feeling your insecurities bubbling. âI would call that bullshitâ, Cassian leaned back. âCass, he dated goddesses. Slim. Tall. Everything sculpted with so much effortâ, you grunted, âAnd then look at me. Ass, tits, I ainât no size zeroâ. Cassian tilted his head to the side, âI fail to see a single bad thing in the way you just described yourselfâ. âNot funny, Cassianâ, you grumbled, âI am not making fun of you same goes for Azriel. Do you know that he had been planning to tell you for the last two months? And I caught him vomiting right after dinner because he was way too nervousâ, each of the generals words hit you like a blow. Azriel had planned it? Wasnât a wimp? Wasnât just a joke. He wanted to⊠âHeâs been an angry little cloudâ, Cassian chuckled, âAnd I think you should take him out of his misery because I know that you feel the sameâ.
You practically ran through the townhouse. Slipping steps in your way as you rushed to Azrielâs office. Practically falling through the door. Azriel was out of his chair in a hurry. Worry is written all over his face. âHas something happened? Have you been hurt?â, he asked frantically looking you over. You probably didnât look too put together now that you had run like a maniac to get to him. You shook his head, âI had to see you, had to apologizeâ, you breathed out, âfor the riverâ. Azrielâs shoulders sagged, âYou have nothing to apologize for, Iâm not here trying to make you like meâ. You let out a painful sigh, âAzriel but I do like you itâs justâŠâ, your voice fell silent for a moment, âI just donât see why you would like someone like meâ, you muttered looking down on yourself.
Azriel frowned, âWhat is that supposed to mean?â. You looked up at him, meeting his eyes, âWell, donât you want someone like Sybile, a perfect blond with two symmetrical breasts and noâŠâ, âI will stop you right hereâ, Azriel cut in, stepping closer to you, cupping your cheek. âIf I wanted to cuddle a bag of bones, I would go to the cave up the mountainâ, he pointed out, making your eyes shoot out, âAzâ, hissed. âI love you first for who you are and you come with extra assets to love. Not that I look at your breast when you wash linens in the river or anythingâ, Azriel shrugged as you hit his chest playfully, âPervertâ, you muttered. Feeling your lips curve upwards slightly. âI donât measure my love for you in your weight or looks. And even if I did, it would just mean that I have more love for youâ, âWhen did you turn into such a sweet lovey boy?â, you tilted your head to the side before giving it a little shake. âJust found this picture-perfect girl, she kind of made me fall head over heels for herâ, Azriel muttered, before leaning in to kiss you softly.

Anyway good night/morning
Don't forget to eat and drink well!!
Strange Kind of Humour
Older!Damian Wayne x Reader
wc: 1.2 K summary: you hate bugs (sorry for the people who love bugs) warnings: lots of bad words. a/n: thank you so much for the request and sorry for the late reply, but this is really funny and had to educate myself on that kubz scouts guy (i watch him regularly now) i couldn't really come up with such creative words, but this is the best i could do. enjoy! (divider)
75% of all animal species are insects, most of them have wings and can fly. However, only some of them look cute and are not some venomous, useless, shit-eating bastards who are trying to get into your stupid tent.
Someone came up with the perfect idea to go camping for two days, to finally relax from everything thatâs been going on. Bruce was very reluctant but eventually got blackmailed into joining, not having any possible way of working since you are all in the middle of the woods, trying to have fun.
Damian invited you to go with him, actually begged you, so he isnât alone with all these lunatics, and youâve never been more happy to join a trip. He knew you would be happy to join, just hoping the others wonât make fun of him for being âsoftâ for you, or else this small family-trip will end up in a blood bath. So far, itâs been actually pretty good so far, you had something warm to eat, having grilled together, had something vegetarian for Damian. You talked a lot with Dick and Tim, noticed the funny dynamic between Jason and Tim, befriended Cass, and made fun of Damian together with Duke as he failed to build the tent up three times.
Now, that everyone has tents and sleeping bags, you can all take a rest for the day and sleep. If it werenât for the bugs trying to fly in and annoy you both. Damian didnât seem to mind much, just curling himself up in his sleeping bag so no one can disturb him. But this is enough.
»I swear to god, if these little shits wonât stop coming in, I will pull my fucking hairspray and a lighter out and burn this whole fucking forest.«
You mutter under your breath, but Damian caught wind of it. Of course he did, he is laying right beside you. His head shoots out of the sleeping bag, looking at you in the dark.
»How about we donât?«
Damian suggest quietly, slightly puzzled on how annoyed you are over such a thing. Itâs just bugs.
»Iâm sure they will leave us alone sooner or later. Just put your sleeping bag over your head.«
he tells you, hoping to soothe you down and hope that you wonât be disturbed for the night. Itâs just one night, after all.
You huff out and do as told, shifting to put your sleeping bag over your head, curled up like him in his own bag.
zzzz
You want to punch that mosquito right then and there. Normally you would just brush it off and try to get it away, but this wonât do anything since you are literally in a forest, camping. It only makes sense for bugs and insects to be there.
Itâs silent for a moment before the high-pitched buzzing starts again, already done with this.
»Look, Iâm gonna get this thing, track its whole family down and behead every single one-«
»Okay, how about we relax and open the tent for a moment so it can fly out, hm?«
He finally sits up and wraps his arm around your shoulder to keep you seated in your sleeping bag. No matter how many times you curse and say out-of-pockets things like that, it always surprises him when you do that. It usually happens whenever you are annoyed or upset, and right now he is pretty sure you are exasperated. Which doesnât make this any better.
Eventually, he managed to lay you back down to sleep after a few moments, having some annoying buzzing around, but itâs nothing too bad. You both fell asleep after a while, getting woken up later in the morning by a scream. Damian immediately goes to check, peeking out of the tent and cursing himself for not bringing his katana to the trip.
Looking out, he sees Tim at the small camp fire, holding a stick out at a⊠racoon? What the hell is a racoon doing here? Donât they live somewhere else than.. oh, well.
Damian sighs out, getting out of the tent to help him out.
»Relax, Drake, they donât bite⊠usually.«
Tim looks to Damian briefly before staring back at the racoon wide-eyed, still pointing the stick at the innocent animal that was just curious on what these big people and tents are.
»What do you mean âusuallyâ?!«
Damian finally gets fully out of your tent, keeping his eyes on the racoon while approaching it slowly. He ignores the literal panic radiating off of Tim, gently shooing the animal away, but it just stays on its spot, not budging.
Itâs then, when you wake up, having caught some of the conversation between the brothers. You finally peek out of your tent as well, gasping as you see the racoon. The round, fluffy animal keeps its dark eyes on Damian, just sitting relaxed while your boyfriend is trying to shoo him away.
You didnât gaps out of disgust, but out of surprise and awe. Thereâs not a lot of days you see a cute racoon, a stubborn at that as well. Sure, itâs a wild animal, but why does it look so squishy then?
Coming out of the tent, you stand beside Damian, trying to get closer to the animal. Damian tries to get you behind him, but you have none of it.
»You need to step back, this is a wild animalâ «
»No! Look how cute he is, I just want to pet him quickly!«
You protest, definitely blind by hthe cuteness of the racoon. Damian huffs out, turning to look at you.
»What are you? Snow white, or something? Just step back, let the poor thing run away.«
You whine in protest, really wanting to pet the racoon still. The small argument wakes the rest up as well, having thought itâs nothing bad at first, but hearing that you both wonât stop bickering, it made the others curious.
»What the hell is up with you guys?« Jason grumbles tiredly from his tent, still sitting in it but peeking out. Damian turns his attention to the voice, sighing out in defeat. Eventually, you take the opportunity to get closer to the racoon while Damian distracts himself with Jason, arguing with him now.
You get disappointed as the racoon runs away from you, not havnig been so brave after all. With a small huff, it all falls back to normal, the trip comes back to what they consider normal, eating some breakfast before playing frisbee all together. It turns into a competetive game, everyone including Bruce, trying to catch the frisbee and make the other drop or not even catch it in the first place. Itâs a bit chaotic, but itâs never not chaotic with them. Not that you complain, you really like their dynamic overall and that they are all so sweet to you, although they do tease Damian a lot whenever he is affection with you.
A bright orange, plastic hits your side, yelping at the sudden collition. Of course someone had to accidently hit you with the frisbee. Duke gasps, immeditialy feeling guilty and really wants to sink into the ground at how embarrassing it is. Especially with how Damian glares at him, looking ready to kill.
»Damn, you trynna get me killed?!« You shout before this could escalate, throwing the frisbee back to him, landing at against his stomach with a grunt.
The tension melts away and you proceed to play the game until one finally wins, making the rest groan in defeat.

Back to the basics
Cassian x reader
Premise: Cassian has been working too much, reader is upset
a/n: hello loves, this is my first cassian fic and I'm kind of unsure about it since I've never written for him specifically but hopefully you enjoy it!
warnings: tiny bit of angst (minuscule)
Masterlist
âCass!â You yell from the bottom of the stairs and wait for your mate to answer.
âCassian!â Now climbing up, and a little agitated you walk into your bedroom and expect to see him sprawled out on the mattress. But the room is empty and the bed is cold. You roll your eyes and send Rhysand a mental insult. Thereâs only one place he could be.Â
You had grown tired of asking him to take a break and rest. Maybe it was selfish, but you missed your mate. Wanted his attention only on you, like the old days. When he would whisk you away for picnics and spontaneous camping. You couldnât say you were the outdoorsy type. Having been born and raised in the heart of the Rainbow, you were a proper city girl. But Cassian loved all of that, and you loved him more than what was rational.Â
The door to the study was closed and you could hear him shuffling around in there. Probably frustrated with something happening in the Illyrian Mountains, or maybe Eris sent word of Beronâs newest antics. It must not be grave though, since no one called an emergency meeting. Whatever he was dealing with could wait.Â
Once the tent and food supplies were packed you barged into the office. âIâm busy right now, sweetheart.âÂ
âCassian, Iâm going to say this with love. You are a workaholic.â He scoffed âjust give me a few minutes-âÂ
âNo! Youâve been in here for who knows how long. I supposedly have a mate but I never see him. We never talk and if we do it's âDevlan thisâ or "Kier thatâ or âEris saidâ and Iâm sick of it! Iâm pulling you out. Come on.â You grab his arm and drag him out of the stuffy office. All the way down the stairs heâs complaining âsweetheart, Iâm sorry but I have to work, it's time sensitive-â he finally stopped talking when he saw all of his camping gear packed up in the middle of the sitting room.Â
âWhat-â
âWe are going camping. Like we used to, you remember? When you still paid attention to me?â Cassian groaned, âIâm sorry Iâve been caught up with work-âÂ
âNope. That word is forbidden. If you mention anything to do with work you will have to face⊠undesired consequences. Iâve told Rhysand to leave you alone for a few days. Let's go.âÂ
âAre we walking or..?â You smile, he didnât put up much of a fight.
âYou are flying us, silly.â Hand him the bulky gear and then open the door for him to walk out.Â
âWe canât go too far if Iâm going to be carrying all of this.â You jump in his arms and kiss him on the cheek âletâs go to that little island where we used to see the dolphins.âÂ
He considered it. The flight was longer than what he would have wanted but you had some precious memories there and he knew that you were trying to do something nice for him. âAlright.âÂ
After a comfortable flight, Cassian immediately set you, and all of the gear down. âWhat should we do first?â He asked as he looked around, trying to find a spot to set up camp.
âLetâs set up the tent, then go fishing.âÂ
Cassian nodded and pointed out a level patch of grass nearby. You begin by taking out the tent from the bag and organizing all of the little sticks and stakes in bunches so you knew how many you had of each.Â
âDo you remember how to do this?â
âWell⊠I think this went together-â he snaps a few sticks together âand then it goes through the loops on the tent.â
âNo, I donât think thatâs right.â You distinctly remember that the loops were for securing the rain tarp. Cassina sighed. âSweetheart, Iâve set this tent up enough times to know how.â
âWell, sweetheart, you havenât touched this tent in over fifty years so youâre probably misremembering.â
âDo you really want to fight right now?â
After a deep breath you reply âno, but youâre wrong. Those things go through these sleeves.â
Cassian did as you said and the tent was up in a matter of minutes. You grabbed the fishing rods and walked towards the shore. There was a dock that ended near a reef where fish were abundant. It was also the place where you and Cassian had your first kiss.Â
Back then you were smitten with the giant Ilyrian but Cassian was sweating cold, unsure if you felt the same. He brought you here for a picnic and when the sun began to set you grew frustrated and asked âCassian, be honest, do you want to kiss me?â He choked on a piece of cheese and struggled to articulate that âyes, but I wasnât sure if you wanted me to kiss you and-â you pounced. Latching your lips to his and kissing him until you were both panting.Â
âIâve been wanting to do that for a while.â You smile at him. Months later Cassian told you that he knew he was done for when you smiled at him like that, wild and wicked.Â
âCass?â He hums, eyes focused on the line he just threw, waiting for it to bob.Â
âDo you still like me?âÂ
âWhat?â You throw your own line.Â
âWell, weâve been together for so long I sometimes wonder if you like me. Like if you saw me walking down the street would you still feel attracted to me?âÂ
âOf course Iâd be attracted to you. Youâre the most beautiful creature I have ever seen and I mean that as a fact not a compliment.âÂ
You give him a soft slap on his shoulder âyou old sap.â
âWhat about you?â
âI think you only get more attractive as the years go by.â The fishing rod bends down, signaling that a fish took the bait. This is where Cassian always takes over and pulls out the catch with minimal effort.Â
The sun was setting and you sat flush to Cassian, head resting on his shoulder as he hoped to catch at least one more fish for dinner. You were drawing idle lines on his hand and forearm, just how you knew he liked it. âCass?â
âYeah?â
âIs it that Iâm annoying to be around or something?âÂ
He shifted âwhat do you mean?âÂ
âWell youâre always doing something else and I⊠it sometimes feels like youâre taking on so much because you donât want to come home and spend time with me. I mean today I had to drag you out of that study.â
He sets the rod down and turns to face you. His hands come up to cup your face, he almost flinches when he sees your eyes, hard and unfeeling. He knows youâre bracing yourself for whatever heâs about to say and something inside him cracks. âY/n, I⊠Iâm so sorry if you feel that way but that is the farthest thing from the truth. I treasure our time together and⊠if Iâve been absent it has nothing to do with you.âÂ
He feels the roll of your eyes like a stab to the heart âyou say that but you donât even make it home for dinner most days.â
âIt's just- y/n, we came so close to losing everything. The war, Hybern, the Cauldron- we are still here by pure luck. I was out there doing my best to keep you safe and it was not enough. Nothing I did was enough. But now weâre here and we know something is happening. Koshchei, Beron and who knows if Hybern had other allies looking for retribution. The only thing I can think about is that now the world knows Velaris exists and you are here if something were to happen⊠if another attack happens and you get hurt- that would kill me. So I try to stay on top of everything because it's the only way I can sleep at night. Sweetheart, I love you, I love you with everything that I am and everything that Iâll ever be. Iâm sorry, just-âÂ
Cassian stops talking when you wrap your arms around him in a desperate hug, face buried in his chest. He hugs you back and his heart sinks as he hears you sniffle and moisture pricks at his skin. âSweetheart you donât need to cry- Iâll be home more, Iâll-â
âNo Cas, you donât need to do anything. I- Iâm just so selfish and self centered. Here I was mad at you while youâve been carrying all this burden and I could only think of myself. You deserve better than a spoiled brat and-â
âWhat are you saying?â
âI should be apologizing to you!â Tears are cascading down your cheeks now as you burst with emotion âplease forgive me, we can go home right now if you want.â You begin to stand up but Cassian pulls you down again.Â
âDonât you see? Youâre right. Iâve been obsessing over potential problems but I havenât been home and you are entitled to react to that because I vowed to you to always be by your side and Iâm sorry I failed you-â
âDonât say that! You havenât failed anyone. I just- I miss you.â
âI miss you too.â
âSo how are we gonna fix this?âÂ
âIâll be home everyday for dinner and we can have lunch together in a cafe and-â
âDonât suggest I train with you.â
âBut babe it would be quality time spent together.â You giggle and wipe away the drying tears from your eyes. âIâve seen you train and trust me, Iâd die.âÂ
âAre we good?â You nod and crawl into his lap to straddle him. With both hands on his neck, you pull him towards you in a kiss that reminds you of your first.Â
He deepens the kiss with a nip to your lower lip and his hands come to squeeze your hips. You pull away âdo you want to-â before you can finish, he mumbled a âyesâ and began carrying you back to your campsite where you would not be getting any sleep.

BOMBER THEY I COME BARING A REQUEST!! PLX BARE WITH ME THO I SUCK AT CORRECTLY FORMATTING THESEđđ» Hiro hamada x gn! Reader hcs/comfort were the readers older brother just sucks n they hate him? Like he gets mad easily, really loud when mad, plays victim n undermines readers issues/achievements bcs their younger? (If the brother could also be a grown adult kinda like tadashi you'll have my soul đđ»đđ»)
IM SO SORRY IF THIS IS AGAINST THE RULE WERE IT SAYS IT CANT BE SO DETAILED I'M SORRY!!!I tried my best to keep it as simple as possible (especially considering this is based on my own brother đđ) if it is against the rules im so sorry and feel free to ignore it !! TY for ur time n don't forget to drink water !!đđ»đđ»
Hiro Hamada x Reader with a terrible brother
Pairing(s): Hiro Hamada x Gn!Reader
A/N: Sorry if the title is too blunt, but thatâs my take away from your ask and Iâm rlly sorry u have a brother like that đđ
When Hiro first hears about your older brother and what heâs done itâs most likely a watered down version
Maybe you two were hanging out and you began to rant about how heâs trash and thatâs all Hiro knew
But then he finds out how bad the reality is- itâs when you sneak into his room through his window using some gadgets
Itâs in the middle of the night and you explain briefly what had occurred
An argument as usual had ensued and your brother was overly loud and brought up how you overact with your issues
This really surprises Hiro but he tries his best to comfort you
Especially since this time your delved deeper into what was going on and what your relationship with your brother truly is
Depending on how you are- heâd sneak down and get snacks, water, play games or watch a movie
Either way, the night ends with you two snuggled under the covers
Hiros usually flustered nature disappears at the sight of you being upset and genuinely hurt over a recurring situation
The night is quiet and the discussion sticks to a few words
However, the next morning you two wake up and head downstairs
obviously Cass is like đ€š
But sheâs nicer obviously and decides to give you both some breakfast
I could also see her sending something wrong and so she lets it go but there will most definitely be a discussion later
Then youâre off to wherever you are
Itâs the weekend and Hiro knows youâd want to take your mind off your brother
This was the first day of many that Hiro would do to try and cheer you up
Overall, heâs pretty protective and heavily dislikes your brother
Which is an understatement considering you hate him
And honestly? At first Hiro was shocked
Heâs the same age that tadashi wouldâve been and he could never imagine tadashi being anything but his wonderful self
The thought alone messes with Hiro and he truly begins to empathize with you
Knowing that your achievements are undermined just because youâre younger is insane to him
Tadashi was the complete opposite and would always push for Hiro to improve
Heâs the reason Hiro even bothered going to his ânerd schoolâ
He really wishes you couldâve experienced what it was like to have tadashi as an older brother but weâre in the now so he decides to just be there
Whether itâs letting you stay over or bringing you stuff
He tried his best
As well as Cass, eventually the two of you have to explain and sheâs more than ok wiht you staying over
Of course with ground rules but theyâre easy to follow
Even as his hero persona heâs more than protective and sure he has to help people regardless of
But if he ever runs into your brother, best believe heâs having Baymax fly like 1000 feet into the air and be like âoh sorry it was necessary â
And just be a bitch in total but itïżœïżœs justified
Might be an over exaggeration but letâs be real
Hiro gets real protective over those he loves and youâre no exception

Love and Loss: Ch.8
Warnings: Angst
Ch.7 Here | Ch.9 Here
***
An anger like you had never felt radiated from Azriel, as he turned slowly to face Rhysand. âWhat did you call her?â He demanded, shadows swirling in a frenzy.
Rhysand gave a cold laugh. âShe is my wife, is she not?â
Azriel took a step closer to the still-injured male. âEnough with this game, Rhysand. I have allowed you to use her for long enough, it ends now.â His words brought confusion to your mind, pocketing them for later. This was certainly not the time to bring up your concerns.
âI am your High Lord, you do not âallowâ me to do anything. I do as I please, and you stand by my side.â A dark power glinted off him, danger thick in the air.
âGet your head out of your ass. She has done nothing but be wonderful for you. Why do you choose to treat her this way?â Anger was clouding Azrielâs vision, completely over his brotherâs bullshit.
Rhysand rolled his eyes. âHow many times do we have to go over this? You know it is you I like to upset. She is nothing but a pawn in a much larger game.â
You pushed off the countertop and stepped around Azriel to stare down your husband. âThis is over, Rhysand. If you donât call for the priestess, I will.â You were sick and tired of this nightmare.
âYou will do no such thing. I am the High Lord, what I say goes.â A disgusting arrogance wafted from him, a confidence that he did not deserve. You didnât hesitate to get close to him, getting in his face.
âYou are a despicable male. I almost feel sorry for Feyre, having you as her mate. If only she hadnât made it clear that sheâs as nasty as you are.â Anger flashed through his eyes, but he wisely kept his mouth shut. âI was your wife for 150 years, Rhysand. Regardless of if you were using me for some game, we lived and laid together as husband and wife. I used to think you had created the world for me, and now I see that you have only used me to hurt your brother. For what gain?â You werenât going to keep your thoughts quiet, no longer afraid of him hurting you. Youâd rather feel pain than live under his nightmarish shadow any longer.
Rhysand was taken aback. He blinked slowly at you, an unreadable expression on his face. âAzriel took her. Did he ever tell you?â His voice was almost devoid of emotion, an ancient argument pulling from the ground.
âShe is what this has all been about? I have told you countless times Rhys, I did not take her from you. She never mentioned anything about you!â Azriel blurted out, raising his hands in frustration.
You looked between the two males curiously, waiting for further explanation.
âWhen we were young, there was a girl,â Rhysand began, âin the Illyrian war camp we trained at. Her name was Annabella, and she was my first love.â His voice broke a little as he turned to you. âI kept it a secret from Az and Cass, embarrassed to be so head over heels for her. At that age it was about fighting and fucking, not falling in love.â Azriel murmured in agreement, watching his brother carefully.
âI was courting her in secret, taking her out in the night. We spent hours under the stars, talking and laughing. I truly believed she was going to my wife, my love until the end of my days.â His gaze moved to Azriel. âUntil she betrayed me.â
Azriel grunted, clearly uncomfortable with what Rhysand was about to tell. âShe began to go after Az. She won him over with pretty words and seductive touches. He had no idea about her and I, but that didnât matter to me.â His stare grew hard, lost in the painful memories. âI came home early one day, excited for another night with her. I opened the door to find her on top of my brother on the couch. Neither of them noticed me at first, and I could only watch in horror as two of the most important beings to me ruined my life.â
Azriel made a noise of discomfort, fidgeting on his feet. âRhys, you know I didnât know.â Rhysand held up a hand, stopping him from saying any more.
âI know that now. At the time, I wasnât thinking rationally.â He turned back to you. âI let my power escape me, throwing the room into a hellish pit of dark. Azriel pulled her out and they ran, getting to safety. I destroyed that cabin. I almost destroyed the entire camp too, but Cassian ended up pulling me deep into the woods instead. He had no idea what happened, just knew he had to get me far away.â He took a deep breath and looked at Azriel.
âI decided then and there you would suffer the way I had. Even after you apologized and explained her trickery, my pain was too strong. The sight of the two of you played over and over in my mind, like some sick nightmare.â Rhysand shook his head, a humorless laugh coming from him. âThen I saw you two, and I knew I had found the one.â He shifted his focus back to you, an apology almost in his eyes.
âI am sorry that you were caught in this crossfire. The way I have acted recently, it has been terrible. Once I found Feyre I should have let you go, let you live your own life.â He shook his head. âBut I couldnât. Not at first, not when she still hated me. I realize now that at some point my anger went from Azriel to the both of you. That wasnât fair.â
It wasnât quite an apology, but it was more honest than he had been in recent times.
âI never connected it,â Azriel said, voice quiet. âI didnât realize you were still so hurt by it all. You hid it too well, brother.â
Rhysand looked at him. âPerhaps I did. I have only caused more hurt in the end, and to all the wrong ones. The only one who deserved to hurt was Annabella.â
A horrible thought came over you. âWhat did happen to her?â You asked, hesitant to know the answer.
Rhysand gave another empty laugh. âNot enough. I had her sent to a different camp, as far from ours as possible. I donât really know what happened to her after, and her name was never brought up again. I assume she married some Illyrian there, settled down as his wife.â
Azriel cleared his throat, a small glimpse of shame on his face. âI truly did not know.â The shame quickly turned to anger. âBut what you have done is beyond reason. How long were you going to fool her into believing you were her loving husband?â
Rhysand glanced at you. âI was her loving husband. As I told you all those years ago, Azriel, I could see myself grow to love her. Truthfully, I did. I loved her harder than I ever loved anyone else, especially Annabella.â His words were thick, the emotion causing tears to well up in your eyes. âUnder the Mountain, Amarantha had me do truly terrible things. I didnât pull away from you at first due to Feyre. It was due to fear of you seeing the monster I had become.â
You sighed, taking one of his hands in your own. âRhys, you should have known better. I would never have seen you as a monster for what she forced you to do.â You gave his hand a small squeeze before dropping it. Your voice was hard as you continued. âYou became a monster when you decided it was okay to treat me like dirt in front of your pretty little mate.â
He didnât like that, dark power lashing out towards you. You stood strong, a lighter power radiating from you, keeping him at bay. âI am not to be played with anymore, Rhysand.â He backed down, a glint of anger still in his eye. âThe way you have treated me is inexcusable. I do not care what happened centuries ago with you and Azriel, I do not care about your heartbreak. To use me to rectify that hurt is disgusting. You knew better than to act like that,â you sneered at him, your own anger rising in you.
âYou will not talk to me like that-â
âI will talk to you however I please! I do not care what happens with Feyre, this marriage is over either way. Summon the priestess in the morning, or I will. Get the fuck out of my sight, Rhysand,â you demanded, power growing stronger around you.
He hesitated, ready to argue before remembering his weakened state. âThis isnât over,â he spat, turning on his heel and storming out of the cabin.
Azriel turned to you, smiling wide. âYou are amazing,â he gushed, opening his arms to pull you close to him.
You stuck a hand out, palm hitting his chest and stopping his movements. âYou are not off the hook either, Shadowsinger. Explain what you meant by âI have allowed you to use her for long enough.â Azriel backed away from your glare, shame radiating from his body.
âI donât think now is the best time to talk about this,â he tried, shaking his head.
âNo. I am done agreeing to whatever anyone else wants. You will explain, or I will tell you to leave with Rhysand.â He shifted on his feet, rubbing the back of his neck.
âI knew,â he said, voice quiet, âall those years ago. When Rhys started courting you. I knew that he knew I had feelings for you.â He straightened up, voice growing stronger. âI confronted him about it. I told him to not play with you, that it wasnât fair to use you like that. Never once did I think his actions had anything to do with Annabella. I only thought that he had gotten too cocky with his new High Lord title, that he had this insatiable desire to have the best of everything.â His eyes were sad as he looked over you. âYou were the best, are the best.â
You rolled your eyes, gesturing for him to continue.
âHe promised he would treat you as you deserved, that he would be the perfect husband regardless of how he felt. He did promise to learn to love you, even if the relationship began on a lie.â A shadow twirled around your hand, almost begging you to come to him. You shook it off.
âHe proposed not long after that.â Azriel finished, unsure if he should look at you or the ground.
âSo you knew,â you spoke slowly, âthat he began everything on a lie, and you didnât tell me?â
âI didnât want to ruin your happiness!â He shot out, eyes wide.
âYou were my best friend, Azriel. I trusted you with everything even before Rhysand, and you allowed him to con me into a marriage?â All you could see was red, anger overtaking you.
âI was trying to protect you,â he defended himself, crossing his arms.
âProtect me?! Look where we are now! My husband has turned out to be the worst being in the world, and you allowed that to happen. You allowed all of this happen!â You were screaming now, but you didnât care. Let the rest of the house hear, let the camp hear, let everyone in Prythian hear.
âThe two most important males to me have turned out to be the two dirtiest liars in existence! How am I to ever trust you again, Azriel?â He shrunk back into his shadows, darkness covering his face.
âI suppose I wouldnât expect you to,â he said quietly. There was an edge to his voice, a dangerous anger.
You sighed, the red clearing from your vision as the fight rushed out of you. âI am tired. I need to think.â You walked towards the stairs, pausing at the base of them. âDo not come find me until I decide you can.â
Azriel stood in silence in the kitchen as you walked away, vision focused on the door. Ancient rage coursed through his veins, moving him towards it subconsciously. He only had one thought on his mind.
Find Rhysand.
And make him pay for what he had done.

iâm gonna be obnoxious about this and people are just going to have to be cool about that. yes? good.
happy birthday to what would you do (if they ever found us out) (affectionately known as wwyd)!!! a year ago today, i posted chapter one and (iâm not being dramatic here) i think it changed my life?
little backstory: iâm a dyke with eyes and a type, so when i watched fran drescher making impassioned speeches about labour rights, i was both smitten and reminded that iâd been meaning to watch the nanny. i was also (mostly unbeknownst to me) about as mentally ill as iâve ever been in my life. i was halfway through a phd which i loved but it was making me so, so unwell. anyway, i started watching the nanny as some kind of escapism and one night, i was likeâŠhas anyone thought of fran and cc kissing on the mouth? and they had (obviously) and so i started thinking about that and how whine cellar is a deeply disappointing episode in so many ways and then i was like âi can fix that! with a one shot!â.
fast fwd to april 2024. iâm in my favourite city in the world. iâm posting the 11th chapter of that one shot far too late at night (sorry sara). itâs ended up about 85k words long. iâm no longer a phd candidate. iâm significantly less mentally ill. and iâve spent the last 8 or so months being held by a group of people i would never have met if i had never started writing again.
i didn't quit my phd to write fan fiction, obviously. but writing fic helped me realise how unhappy i was because it was something that gave me joy in a time that was so fucking bleak. i don't really like thinking about it too much but it wasn't great. and then i had this lifeline. these two idiots (affectionate) falling in love with one another, not only in wwyd but all the other fics i was writing. and talking about with people who were commenting and finding me on tumblr. and then, eventually, we weren't just talking about fran and cc, we were talking about our lives! because we were friends!
people will tell you before you start a phd that it's a lonely experience. i was the only history student in my cohort. i only met one of my supervisors in person at his leaving drinks. i have two friends i met at my uni, one of whom was the first person i told that i had to quit. i had other friends and an incredible, loving, patient partner, and they were amazing. but still, it was lonely.
and then i just fucking wasn't.
january â24, the squad evolved from being my stupid tumblr tag to being the most chaotic group chat i have ever been part of (until nic got us nicely organised). a week or so later, i quit the phd. and i told a bunch of people iâd never met that i was dropping out of grad school and they were so fucking kind. i will never forget that. the squad, in all its iterations, will have my heart for my whole life. i will not rest until i have annoyed you all in person. my dream is winning the lottery and flying you all to a villa in spain for a week so i can cook you dinner (and cass can make bread) every night and drink wine and splash about in the sun (or in saraâs case, hide in the shade and probably yell at us to put sun screen on). when i say i love you, i mean it so wholly and truly.
anyway, back to wwyd. itâs not my first fic. iâve been writing on and off for 15 long, long years. but i hadn't written a ton for a while (other than my aloto fic bc gretson my beloved) and i really kind of expected to get a couple of comments and a few kudos. i just had a story that wanted to get out so i published the first few chapters in really rather quick succession (iâm sorry to anyone who reads my stuff, my adhd is too bad for a posting schedule) and peopleâŠloved it? like, really loved it. which was so nice because iâm gonna be honest, there was not an adoring audience for my academic work (perils of being a genocide scholar). and i know it's become quite a few peopleâs comfort fic. i know people have reread it, more than once in some cases, which feels wild. people have left the most wonderful comments, said the kindest things, drawn gorgeous art, made a fanmix (which is fucking amazing), followed along on this journey which i did not expect them to do.
i don't have favourite children (b&w fans, i promise you, the next chapter is in the works) but if i did, wwyd might be one. sure, she's my difficult eldest child. but she got me into a fandom for the first time in years, sheâs given me friends i know I will hold onto for the rest of my life, she reminded me how much fun writing can be. and sheâs spawned so much more because she made me so much more confident as a writer.
so i don't think iâm being overdramatic when i say it changed my life. if youâd told me all of this when i hit publish on chapter one last year, i would have told you to fuck off. relatively vehemently. but iâm better now. and iâm so fucking grateful for this fic for being part of what gave me that.
anyway, thanks for letting me be a bit self indulgent - promise you don't have to sit through this ever again (maybe for won't you when i finally get it done. iâm sorry. iâm verbose). and once again, to everyone who has read wwyd, given it kudos, commented, reblogged a chapter on tumblr, all of it, my eternal thanks. i couldn't have done it without you.
finally, because i cannot say it enough, to the squad, you have my whole heart. itâs actually mad to me that this time last year, i had no idea who any of you were. your stamp on the last few chapters of wwyd is indelible. your stamp on my life is somehow more permanent than that. thank you. ilsym đ«¶đ»

Hey I saw in your bio that your requests are open? Pls ignore if they aren't đđŒ but I had this idea for Azris, and as the queen of Azris angst, I knew I had to at least share it with you
So I've been watching the Shadowhunters show (idk if you've seen it) but basically there's this seen where Jace gets possessed by some spirit thing and starts attacking his best friend, Alec. And they have a whole fight scene and it ends with Jace stabbing Alec with an arrow. All the while the ghost thing is talking THROUGH Jace and saying stuff like "Your boy's in there, screaming, begging me not to do this." And Alec is all like "it's ok, it's not your fault.". (I would highly recommend searching that scene up, it's the best angst inspo and I'm horrible at explaining)
Anyways imagine that buttt...AZRIS!!! What if after they are officially mated and everything, running their court, a new threat emerges that basically possess Eris who then attacks Azriel, maybe he stabs him, maybe there's a bit of burning involved (pls I'm sorry I know it sounds fucked up, but I love a good angst)
And then when Eris gets rid of whatever is controlling, how would they heal from that, like move on and stuff cuz I can imagine Eris would be feeling hella guilty and Az would want to forgive him but still be shaken up himself too...
Anyways if you do decide to write you can change it up as you like, I know whatever you come up with will be AMAZINGGG
You Would Never Hurt Me
Azriel is at a weekly family dinner when suddenly his bond with Eris alerts him to danger. What will happen when he realizes his mate is being controlled by another? What lengths will he go to? - 5.3k words of emotional pain.
Author's Note: Queen of Azris Angst? we sure? y'know what... i'll take it XD. I took a few creative liberties, but actually not too many... but I hope you enjoy :D
ouch my soul hurts. genuinely hurt me to write this but it just hurt so good. Also, I did end up changing the part about Az hesitating to forgive him because he was shaken up purely because the situation was so much more angsty with Az desperately trying to convince Eris everything is okay.
TW: Depictions of violence, mentions of blood, SEVERE burns, Azrielâs canon backstory, mind control trope, descriptions of severe injuries
also this was not edited very much. apologies for any mistakes!

âą ă ⟠ă âŁ
The newest threat to Prythian had been biding their time for a while. Azriel wasnât going to lie that he was nervous. He and his spies in both courts he had close connections to had been unable to find anything of use. The only thing that they seemed to know was that this enemy was intelligent and not without power. They didnât even know if it was a fae from the continent, Prythian or even Hybern. All reports had come up useless in the grander scheme of things.
âAz, if you keep that frown on your face, it might just become permanent,â Cassian teased. Heâd gone to the weekly dinner at Velaris this week. This time, without Eris. Normally heâd come along, but Eris had decided he wanted to finish up some of the paperwork and work on training one of the newest ghost hound yearlings some more commands.
Azriel couldnât help but feel tense over the matter since he knew heâd seen more signs of the enemy closer to the Autumn Court than anywhere else. It had his metaphorical hackles standing on end almost constantly.
Cassian nudged his shoulder with his knuckles. âCome on, Az,â his brother urged. âRelax a moment. I know youâd rather Eris be here, but heâs going to be just fine. Heâs a damn High Lord of fire. I think he can manage a night without your shadows surrounding him.â
Azriel sighed, nodding in agreement. âSorry, Cass,â He mused. âSomething just feels off tonight.â
âHow so?â Rhys questioned from across the table, still facing Nyx as he tried to bargain with the child over eating his greens.
Azriel shrugged. âThe shadows are jittery. The darkness doesnât bring comfort. Something is just off,â he replied.
Rhys hummed in acknowledgement. Feyre replied, âIs it about that threat?â She asked carefully. The bags under her eyes were evidence that the little Heir to the Night Court was still having trouble sleeping since his visit to the Illyrian camps.
âIâm not entirely sure. But Iâve seen more signs of them near the Autumn Court than anywhere else,â he admitted. âI wish we knew what they were capable of at the very least.â
âWhatever it is, Az, Iâm sure we can handle it,â Rhys said, looking up toward him. âWeâve handled far worse than one crazed individual. But if youâre nervous and youâre not even going to eat whatâs on your plate until you get back to your mate, none of us will fault you for leaving.â
Nesta nodded from where she sat beside Cassian, but she was also just playing with her foot with her fork. âThat, or you can kidnap him and force him to attend dinner and book club,â Nesta mused, smirking as she glanced over at him.
Azriel scoffed in amusement. âIâm not so sure heâd appreciate that, Nes.â
Nesta chuckled. âNo, but itâd make your sorry ass stop brooding for five minutes.â
Azriel rolled his eyes, turning away. He put his fork down. They werenât wrong to say he couldnât stomach food with this⊠itch of some sort bugging the hell out of him.
Suddenly, the bond twitched inside of him. Not a good twitch either.
Azriel sat up straight immediately, putting a hand to his chest when more emotions began flowing through. Worry. Confusion. Fear.
Azriel stood up as quickly as he could, shadows flaring out.
âAzriel,â Rhys mused from the table. âWhatâs wrong?â
âHeâs in danger,â Azriel breathed.
Rhys immediately stood up. âIn danger? Eris? The Lord of Fire?â
âDonât make jokes, Rhys,â he begged, breathing a bit heavier. âDonât follow me yet. The wards will stop you. Just⊠keep a tab on my mind. I have a feeling what this is. And itâs not a nightmare.â
Then he winnowed, feeling Rhys gently prod into his mind to stay as a presence just on the outside of his mind so heâd know whatâs happening too.
Azriel followed the bond, sprinting as fast as possible through the Forest House until-
Eris was in his office.
But then something stopped. The bond stopped. Empty.
Azriel burst in, panting terribly as he spotted Eris standing at his desk.
âEris?â He questioned hesitantly.
Eris turned around, but his eyes were distant. Azrielâs heart dropped like a stone when he heard emotionless words come out of his mateâs mouth. âEris is not here, Illyrian mongrel.â
Azriel squared his shoulders, pressing his already glowing siphon to form his armor over his body. He crouched down imperceptibly. âEris, this is not a funny joke.â
That was just his denial talking though. Eris had never called him an Illyrian mongrel.
âOh, he doesnât?â The male asked hauntingly. âAre you so sure? I know you canât be⊠being a bastard and all.â
Something slammed into his mental walls and Azriel stumbled back just as Rhys seemed to reel back in his mind.
Azriel gritted his teeth, forcing his eyes open as he stared into Erisâs eyes, waiting for the familiar clarity to come back.
âYouâre pathetic,â Eris snarked. âOne measly hit and it almost took you down? Weak.â
Rhys seemed to be doing something akin to building a second wall from within his mind, battling off something. Azriel couldnât spare any mental energy to figure out what it was.
âEris⊠you need to come back,â He said, but it really came out more like pleading.
Flames sparked on Erisâs palms and Azriel couldnât help his flinch. Though his mate had been helping him overcome his fear as of late, something⊠something felt wrong about this.
âEris,â he warned, eyes drawn down to the fire unconsciously. âWhat are you doing?â
âMy name is not Eris,â he hissed, stalking closer. A dagger summoned to Erisâs palm, the flame lighting up the daggerâs edges as if it was some glowing blade. If he hadnât been so shocked over the loss of his bond and the fear for his mate, he wouldâve thought it almost looked cool. But right now? It was downright terrifying.
The male leapt at him and Azriel raised up his arms in defense, dodging to the side with only a few centimeters to spare. He didnât want to hurt Eris. That was on the forefront of his mind.
But what was he supposed to do when Eris was trying to hurt him?
âEris,â he pleaded. âCome back to me.â
Eris chuckled, one of the ones reserved for the lords in the council when they were pissing him off. âYou know, your mate is putting up quite the fight in here. Heâs been trained against people like me, but clearly not like you and your little friend protecting you.â
Azriel spared the moment of suspension to ask Rhys: Whatâs happening? Who?
Daemati, was Rhysâs only response and it was said as if through gritted teeth.
Shit. Eris was being controlled by a daemati. And though he had faith in Rhys, he knew that the male didnât have much practice in fighting his own kind.
Azrielâs shadows rose like asps preparing to strike above his shoulders, as if sensing that this was not their beloved mate. No. This was an enemy this time. But he couldnât hurt what was his.
âLet him go,â Azriel snarled.
Eris put a finger to his chin, tilting his head as if considering the prospect before scoffing. âNo.â Then Eris leapt at him again. Azriel hadnât been prepared this time- too much in shock to truly focus. His shadows reached out to cover his mateâs wrists in a desperate attempt to try and return him back, but it didnât stop the dagger from lodging itself deep in his shoulder and twisting.
Azriel couldnât help the pained groan that escaped him. He flared his wings and pushed forward quickly, grabbing Erisâs shoulders and pushing the male back. Though they were of equal strength, Azriel was stronger physically if they really tested themselves.
But the daemati had control over Erisâs magic at that moment and Azriel couldnât help his yelp when the flames suddenly engulfed his hands. He wanted to scream and run, to get into the sky and never return-
He couldnât though. This was his mate.
Azriel felt tears dripping out of his eyes as he pushed Eris back against a wall. âCome back to me,â he begged brokenly while staring into Erisâs beautiful fire-colored eyes.
âPlease,â he continued.
Keep him held there, Rhys demanded in his mind. And release your shields.
Azriel really didnât have the mental capacity to question Rhys at this moment, so he simply obeyed. The other daemati swept in, but Rhys met it head-on. Another presence joined the battlefield too- a softer type of darkness. Feyre.
A headache was beginning to bloom behind his temples at all the action occurring in his mind. More than anything though, his hands burned. The daemati was more distracted so the flames were certainly not as hot as they could be, but it still hurt.
Talk to him, Feyre ordered sternly. Bring your mate out of the fire.
Azriel let out a choked sob, his wings flaring behind him as he pressed toward Eris and rested his forehead against his mateâs. âEris,â he begged. âI know this isnât you. Come back to me. I know you wouldnât-â
He cut off with a groan as the flames burned hotter. His flesh might be melting off to be honest. But he couldnât let him go. Not now. Not ever. Azriel let another sob tear out of his throat as he pressed desperately into Eris.
âCome back to me,â he pleaded brokenly. âThis isnât you, Eris. Youâre my mate. Youâre mine. And you would never hurt me.â
Let go now, Feyre yelled over whatever clashing was occurring on the battleground between their minds.
âI canât,â Azriel sobbed. He couldnât let Eris go. Not like this. Not now. He needed his mate to know he was there and he would forgive him.
Az, let him go before your hands melt off, Rhys snarled harshly.
Azriel sobbed and stumbled backward. Eris remained standing against the wall as Azriel curled his hands toward his chest, shadows curling around them quickly, providing a soothing cold touch to them.
He kept his eyes open, watching Eris and watching his eyes. There was a flicker of fire there. Just a flicker.
âEris,â he said again. The eyes went distant again and he snarled at the daemati, hoping the bastard could hear him over all the clashing. âLet him go. Let my mate go. Let Eris go, you-â
He couldnât come up with an insult that could encompass all the hate he felt toward the being at this moment.
The bond flickered and Azriel clutched his chest. That put an idea in his head and he immediately brought all the love he felt for the male in front of him and shoved it down the bond as forcefully as he could. As well as some determination he hoped Eris would interpret as âYouâre better than it. Fight back. Youâre mine.â
Eris suddenly collapsed against the wall, body slumping into the floor. Azriel rushed forward before his head could slam into it as well. He cradled the male in his lap, tears still pouring down his cheeks. Everything was too much and not enough. He needed Eris, and that was about the only thing he could interpret.
âEris, Eris, Eris,â he began repeating, pushing the hair out of his mateâs face desperately even as his shadows reported the door slamming open and Rhys with Cassian came running in.
They tried to grab his arms and drag him away but he fought harshly. âNo! Donât make me leave him,â he begged them. He needed to know his mate would be alright.
âWeâll get him too, Az,â Cassian said, pulling even more. âRhys will get him. Come on, before your hands-â
Azriel held onto Eris even more, not wanting to leave his mate alone and afraid. Even if he was unconscious now, he would wake up and feel regret over something that wasnât even in his control. He knew he would. But Azriel needed to be there so he could comfort him.
âAzriel,â Rhysand commanded sharply. âLet him go. Go to Madja.â
He wanted to disobey the command so badly, but his strength gave out and Cassian scooped him up onto his feet. Rhys picked Eris up into his arms and then they were winnowing straight into Madjaâs clinic. Someone mustâve warned her because she already had a bucket of cold water that Cassian forced his hands into.
âStay still,â Cassian ordered when he tried to twist and see where Rhys was taking his mate. âYouâve got to cool your hands down,â He told him. âEris is just fine. Heâs going to get checked out by Madja. You are going to get healed before your hands scar even worse with more permanent damage. Do you realize your skin is melting off?â
âBut Eris-â Azriel tried to protest.
âDo not make me order you again, Az!â Rhys called from the other room. He saw Feyre winnow in as well, running toward where Rhys was. And Azriel was stuck here, useless, with his hands in a goddamn bucket. He couldnât even feel the pain in the wake of knowing his mate was hurt.
He sobbed through his teeth. This was worse than his brothers burning his hands. This was so much worse than even the worst injuries heâs sustained in war or his line of work.
Feyre suddenly came up to him and her gentle presence ghosted along the edges of his mind before soothing something he didnât even realize was tearing him apart from the inside it seemed like. The headache eased slightly.
âIs he okay?â He asked, looking up at Feyre. She had the most caring expression on her face and he wanted it gone.
âRhys is with him right now,â Feyre told him. âMadja is there too, but youâre the main concern right now. Heâs only going to have mental wounds. But Rhys can fix it, donât worry,â she added on quickly when his face dropped.
âHow?â He asked. âThat kind of-â
âWe caught it early and Rhys saw what was damaged in the fight. Itâs okay, Azriel. Heâs going to be okay. Now we need to make sure your hands are going to be okay, alright? Breathe and keep that even head I know you have. Eris is okay.â
Azriel sighed and slumped against whatever was nearby in relief. It ended up being Cassian. He trusted Feyre. Eris was going to be okay. And that was the only thing that mattered.
âCome on, Az,â Cassian urged, holding him up gently while still keeping his hands dunked in the water. âYour panicking will not help him if he wakes up.â
Azriel breathed and his shadows came up to whisper assurances that Eris was in the other room on a bed with Rhys and Madja. Cared for. He forced his body to come back from whatever super-adrenaline state it had gotten itself into.
âThatâs it,â Cassian encouraged. âThatâs good, Az. Do you feel any pain yet?â
At the mention, yes. His hands burned and not in any sort of good way. He didnât dare look into the water. He probably couldnât anyway since it was bloody. That probably wasnât a good sign. The stabbing in his shoulder hurt, but it was duller than his hands at the moment.
âYes,â he gritted out, huffing out some breath to suck more in anew as the pain now took over his being.
âIâll get Madja,â Feyre said.
âNo-â He said. âLeave her with Eris. Iâm okay.â
âEris is unconscious and Rhys is fully capable of caring for him. Iâll go over there too to help. But you need healing.â
Azriel sighed, knowing this wasnât something Feyre would allow so he gave up on the argument early. âOkay,â he breathed. âMake sure heâs alright. Please.â
Feyre left and Madja was walking in quickly. âGet your shadows to cover your own eyes,â She ordered. The shadows, not completely under his will at the moment, took initiative and covered his eyes while she pulled his hands out of the cold water. They were numb in some places and burning in others.
Madja let out a harsh breath. âDo not lift that blindfold,â she told him and then the burning returned tenfold and he knew she was pushing healing magic into his hands. Cassian kept him restrained even as he tried to keep screams from bubbling out of his throat.
Alas, he could only stop them for so long and they soon spilled out. He lost any and all breath in his lungs all too quickly. Probably a good thing. Cassian kept him in a firm hold which grounded him somewhat but it hurt.
When he was finally given a reprieve, he was halfway towards passing out. When the pain mostly receded to a harsh ache, he finally drew in breath and slumped back against Cassian with his eyes closed.
âCome on, Az,â Cassian encouraged. âLetâs get you over to Eris, alright? Madja will wrap your hands there.â
Azriel could barely spare a hum of acknowledgement before he was being manhandled to his feet and forced to walk on shaky knees with droopy eyelids. His shadows had dropped back down to his hands, covering them from sight. Maybe that was a good thing, he decided. As soon as he saw Eris, he tried reaching out for his mate, but Cassian slapped his arm down.
âYou are not using your hands, Az. Sit your ass down,â Cassian ordered. His brother helped him get out of his armor and leathers so he was just in his undershirt and pants.
He was forced to sit on the stool nearby, but was allowed to scoot it as close as possible to Eris to lean down over the bed and rest his forehead against Erisâs skin, breathing his mateâs scent in. It calmed his nerves just enough for him to finally take a deep breath.
Madja came in and forced him to hold himself up for a few more minutes while she wrapped his hands in white bandages as well as his shoulder. Then he was allowed to rest. Rhys pulled away from Eris eventually and he perked up, looking at his brother.
âHeâll be alright,â Rhys assured him. âAt most, he wonât remember the fight, which Iâd say is a mercy.â
Azriel sighed in relief and rested his head back down into Erisâs now cold palm since he couldnât hold it properly. There, he fell asleep.
âââââ
Azriel didnât know how much time passed when he awoke. His hands ached like none other and if he had to be honest: everything hurt. Apparently, almost having your mate be gone to mind control by a daemati gave you some really bad tension to deal with. Specifically in his shoulders which were always the hardest to get at. Impossible now because of the thick bandages on his hands. The stab felt as if itâd already healed over. Perks of Illyrian healing, he supposed.
He lifted his head from wherever he was laying and squinted when he looked to his left and saw an empty bed.
âEris?â He said aloud, sitting up and glancing around more. Someone mustâve moved him to the bed. But where was his mate? Azriel needed to be with him.
Suddenly, a burst of calm exploded from his chest and Azriel gasped for breath, not even realizing heâd been holding it. The bond. Thank the fucking Cauldron it was back. It meant that Eris was awake and okay enough to not be⊠well, dying.
Azriel groaned as he stood up, flexing his wings out behind him as he stared down at his hands. For Madja to have wrapped them so much he couldnât even move his wrists⊠he mustâve gotten burned quite badly, he deduced. But, priority number one was finding Eris.
He tugged on the bond once, slowly wandering out toward where Madja usually sat in her clinic.
Eris was beside her.
Azriel breathed deeply at last, relief coursing through his veins at the sight of his mate being awake and even having a conversation with Madja over something relating to some sort of bright orange plant that looked like fire. He stumbled his way over there as quickly as he could, wrapping his arms around Eris and pressing his nose into the junction of his neck and shoulder to breathe in his scent.
Eris, however, had frozen. And that sent ice barreling through Azriel. What had happened?
âHi Az,â Eris said hesitantly.
Azriel pulled away immediately, coming around to see Eris from the front to try and discern what the problem was.
For some reason, he had a guilty look on his face. Not a joking one- no, it was similar to the one he had when he figured out heâd accidentally forgotten something in court which led to the death of some farmers. A broken sort of regret.
âEris, whatâs wrong?â Azriel asked, brows furrowed in concern. âWhat happened? Did someone do something before I woke up? Iâll kill them for you with or without my hands,â he said, rage already pooling in his heart at the thought of someone making his mate feel this sort of guilt.
âNo, no, Iâm fine,â Eris waved him off, averting his gaze to the ground. âNobody did anything besides that damned daemati.â
âIâm already killing him,â Azriel said to try and assure his mate. âIâm going to find him, tear his head from his shoulders and put it on a pike. Give the body to the scavengers and the head can be a personal trophy until it decays.â
A small chuckle came out of his mateâs chest and Azriel warmed up considerably, glad he could at least get that out of Eris. A chuckle was a start.
âCome on, Eris,â Azriel said, bringing his bandaged hands up to cup Erisâs cheeks. âTell me whatâs wrong. Iâm not blind.â
Eris sighed and then gently grabbed Azrielâs forearms to hold his hands up. âThis is whatâs wrong,â he pointed out as if it was obvious.
Azrielâs brows furrowed. Then he realized. âEris, these are not your fault. These are that bastardâs fault.â
âIt was my fire that burned you, Az,â Eris argued, releasing his hands and standing up.
Madja stood as well. âIâll let you two talk this out. Let me know if someone starts dying,â she says as she walks out.
Azriel looked at Eris, checking him from top down for any injuries or other apparent signs of his emotions. Both males had tells even if they were masters at hiding away.
âIt was your fire controlled by that bastard,â Azriel argued, pressing forward. He paused when Eris backed up, even more concerned. Itâd been centuries since Eris had backed away from his comfort.Â
âEris,â he spoke softly. âI wouldâve held you back even if my wings were burned off my shoulders. It is not your fault. Take away that guilt from your mind right fucking now. I couldâve let go the instant the daemati lit the flames, but guess what? I didnât, did I?â
Eris looked sheepishly now and Azriel opened up his arms.
âItâs okay, Eris. You would never hurt me. I know that. You should already know that,â Azriel insisted. âMy hands will heal in time. Thereâs a reason Madja is so esteemed as a healer. And Iâm pretty sure she even got to the burns faster than the guards did when I was 8. The only reason I can speak about that night and not fear the flames is because of you.â
Eris now had tears running down his face and Azriel dared a step forward.
Eris didnât move, but he didnât come closer either. âIâm sorry,â Eris whispered, closing his eyes.
âYou would never hurt me,â Azriel repeated.
âYour hands-â
âI donât give a fucking shit about my hands,â Azriel cut him off. âIâd rather my entire arm be torn off than be in a world where youâre controlled by a daemati. Donât you realize that? I would do anything to protect you. My hands being burned is the least of my worries.â
âAz, I still burned you. In the worst of places,â Eris argued.
âYou did not burn me,â Azriel insisted. âYou would never hurt me. Trust yourself on that, huh? Trust me on it at the very least.â
Eris choked on a sob and Azriel opened up his arms again. Finally, finally, his mate went stumbling into his comfort.
âI should have fought harder against his control,â Eris said, voice broken and muffled against Azrielâs shoulder. âI could have. But it was just so hard. It felt like everything in my mind had gone under ice, yet I could feel the heat escaping me. Burning you. I tried so hard and it didnât work-â
âShhâŠâ Azriel hushed, holding Eris as tight as he could. âYou did the best you could, Eris. The fact you even still remember the experience is a miracle in itself. Daemati can be very damaging. Can scratch memories. Rhys was able to repair them but I was so worried about you. You have no clue.â
Eris sobbed wetly into his shoulder and Azriel felt tears slipping down his own cheeks as well. He let his emotions flow freely over the bond. Erisâs were still a mix of guilt, but now it was more of a lost hopelessness than true guilt. More of a âI donât know how to fix thisâ kind of look.
âThere is nothing that you did wrong,â Azriel whispered. Eris hugged him tighter and he smiled, squeezing him back as well. His shadows were helping him give more force behind it since he was unable to use his hands and the damn plush of the bandages did not help.
âI donât know what happened beyond the fact I burned you,â Eris admitted. âI was caught off guard since I was tired and waiting for you to come home. He just⊠snuck between my mental walls and latched on like a damn leech.â
âYou need to rest more. Now that we know weâre dealing with a daemati, we need to keep mental shields sharp. But luckily we have some of the most powerful daemati on our side. Itâs already two against one,â Azriel joked.
Eris chuckled and finally pulled away to meet Azrielâs eyes. âIâm going to help you heal your hands,â he declared. âIâll help you with everything. Anything. Writing? Done. Massage or oil? Done.â
âIf this is you trying to make up for a fake mistake, donât,â Azriel said seriously.
âThis is me helping my mate through an injury,â Eris replied, giving a small reassuring smile despite the obvious signs heâd been crying not even a few seconds ago.
âGood,â Azriel told him. âIâll definitely take you up on the writing part. Iâve got to write down things about what happened. See if we can piece together clues. And maybe itâll help you piece together your memory,â he added.
Eris nodded. âAnything,â he repeated.
âBut first,â Azriel said, putting one bandaged hand up, âWeâre going to bathe because we both stink.â
Eris couldnât help the laugh that exploded from his chest and it made Azriel all the merrier. He loved making him laugh like this.
âAgreed,â his mate replied. âMaybe we should talk to Madja about the wrapping of your hands first?â
Azriel nodded in agreement. âThen a warm bath,â he added. âI may take you up on the massage you mentioned,â he joked. âMy shoulders ache.â
âYou were sleeping on a goddamn stool when I woke up,â Eris said, scoffing in amusement. âOf course your back is hurting, bat. You should have laid in the bed not even two feet away.â
âI needed to be close to you,â Azriel admitted. âI thought I wouldnât sleep like the dead and be awake with you butâŠâ
Eris chuckled. âYou always sleep like the dead when your face is buried in my scent. Honestly, you shouldnât have expected any differently.â
Azriel rolled his eyes. But the little banter also assured him that Eris was truly okay. At least for now, those thoughts of guilt had been warred against and lost.
Cassian came jogging in loudly suddenly and he sighed in relief when he spotted them. âThank the fucking Cauldron you are both awake,â he panted. âAz? How are your hands?â
âHurt, but theyâre fine,â Azriel dismissed. âHow bad were they?â
âYou do not want to know,â Cassian replied.
âI would,â Eris spoke up. âAfter all, who knows how to heal burns better than the Fire Lord who deals them out?â He said. But luckily, his tone was lighthearted. No guilt to be seen. If there was, Azriel wouldâve slapped the back of his head to reprimand those feelings.
Cassian hesitated, but then sighed. âSkin was practically melted off. Some parts were down to the bone. Bloody as hell,â he briefly described.
Azriel sucked in a breath, gazing down at his own hands. How had he not felt that? Apparently, his concern over Eris had been that powerful. Eris also seemed frozen in shock.
Cassian shrugged. âThey looked better after Madja used all her healing magic on them. I think the only thing she was concerned about was the potential damage to your sense of touch, Az. Like, light touches.â
Azriel hummed in response. âIt certainly wouldnât be any different than the aftermath of my old injury,â he admitted. âJust takes a few years for it to return to normal.â
Cassian hummed. âWell, anyway, I was just coming here to check up on you,â he admitted, rubbing the back of his head.
âWeâre fine,â Azriel assured his brother. After a moment of hesitation, he sighed and said, âThank you, Cass. You kept a level head.â
Cassian scoffed. âSomeone had to. You shouldâve seen Rhys. He was practically catatonic with the mental battle. Iâm surprised his or your head didnât burst. Or Erisâs for that matter.â
Eris chuckled softly at that, but didnât say anything. Azriel glanced at him before stretching his arms out best he could without the use of his hands. âAnyway, weâre off to get clean,â he declared.
âTell Rhys the Autumn Court isnât getting one of my brothers as ruler just yet,â Eris joked.
Cassian chuckled and nodded. âDonât die,â he replied with a snicker before walking back where he came from. Wing beats told them that heâd actually left.
Madja was walking back in too. âWhile Iâd rather keep your hands wrapped, Azriel, I do agree that you two need to bathe,â she explained. âIâll unwrap them, but theyâre going back on immediately after.â
The shadows floated towards her, some settling on the bandages of his hands as if in question to continue the order she gave them last time.
âI believe it will be alright if he sees his hands now, my friends,â Madja told them with a sweet smile. âLetâs get them unwrapped now.â
Barely fifteen minutes later, Azriel and Eris were sitting together in the bathtub, mostly just relaxing. Azriel pulled his hands up out of the lukewarm water (more strict instructions from Madja) to examine them. His old scars⊠were almost gone. As if burned or melted away. Instead, deep indents remained. His hands felt as if they had lost weight and he couldnât move his fingers yet, but Madja had told him the muscles still needed time to realize they werenât melted anymore.
Regardless, it looked odd. The skin was pulled tight. But something felt off about them.
Eris put a hand on his wrists to put his hands back in the water and draw his attention. âItâll just take time,â Eris assured him.
âI donât think Iâve heard of burns this bad,â Azriel admitted.
âI have,â Eris said. âNormally it took a few years, but they did eventually heal if they survived the initial burning.â
Azriel hummed. âGuess youâll be doing the paperwork for a while,â he joked.
Eris scoffed, smiling. âIndeed I will,â he agreed.
